Does a team in last place and no expectation of competing in 2019 also really need big-time relief arms? Seems like a return package of prospects would be much more valuable assuming they can find the right deals.

No I assume so other relievers will come up and take their place, just like how they became relievers. It is a revolving door in bullpens and that is universal really.

July 3, 20188 yr Conley to close. They should 100% move Claw when the inevitable overpay offer rolls in at the deadline. GMs always overpay for quality shutdown arms at the deadline (see: Hill, Michael) and teams in contention can seemingly never have enough. Relievers are also perhaps the easiest holes to fill during the offseason so it makes sense to trade away Claw provided the return is decent. There will be plenty more like him later on down the line for the Fish.
July 3, 20188 yr I agree with not being inclined to move them. They are proving to be formidable and can be a key to getting back into contention much faster. They also all have several years of control left. Really liking how Conley has looked out of the bullpen.
July 3, 20188 yr You can't just make every player that produces untouchable. This team is still at least 2 seasons away from legit contention so there's little reason in holding onto relievers if we can net a nice return package of prospects.
July 3, 20188 yr Bearclaw trade for sure assuming the value is fair but idk if we'll get good enough value for Conley or Steck. They might have to produce for another year before anyone is willing to give top prospect for them, especially Conley. There's always the chance someone falls in love with them and is willing to take a risk and if that's the case then trade them.

July 3, 20188 yr Barraclough needs to be traded before the deadline because that regression monster is going to hit him hard. We need to get as much as we can for him before he lowers his trade value with a couple of bad outings in a row.

Relievers are more volatile than starting pitchers I don't think anyone called Straily a building block for the future. His appeal has always been that he still has plenty of club control left for a quality back end starter. Those aren't building blocks. Those are trade chips.
