December 12, 20187 yr Well he's more valuable than Stanton last year, so it will eclipse it. I think it's very arguable JT is more valuable now than Hanley in 2012 (with 2.5 years left on his deal, coming off a .9 WAR injured season and just doing OK in season 2012). Yelich and Cabrera were insanely more valuable. Will enjoy the breakdown of the trade when it happens.
December 12, 20187 yr The rumor floating around is a deal centered around Trammell & Barnhart. I’m not in love with that. Yeah, me neither if those are the headliners. Trammel is nice but outfield is the least of our needs currently with Brinson, Mesa, Harrison, and maybe Anderson. And Barnhart is a nice piece too but I mean....

And Barnhart is a nice piece too but I mean.... Agreed. I don’t mind Barnhart, but at this point he needs to be viewed as a Value Add rather than a real piece that moves the needle. Trammel + Mahle or another young SP
December 12, 20187 yr Cabrera got a big return at the time. Miller and Maybin were both top prospects in Detroit's system. Yes. Often overlooked. People leverage benefit of hindsight bigtime on that one
December 12, 20187 yr What do we want from Cinncy? I'm assuming they want an mlb starter as the headline piece like Rosario/Bellinger so who fits that mold. I would imagine the Reds are trying to move a third basemen. They are deep there with Eugenio Suarez at the MLB level, Nick Senzel at AAA and Jonathan India recently a top ten pick in A (but out of college so possibly closer to the Bigs than most A ball guys). I’d want Senzel or Trammell plus some pitching. If it’s Senzel then Anderson moves to third. If it’s Trammell then Anderson stays in RF

December 12, 20187 yr Factoring in Stanton's contract, JT has a ton more trade value than he did. Not going to argue it (cant really argue that). The line of thinking was more around the quality of player than the value of the player itself...Though it might be argued that due to position even that's not that different. Last year of his contract with us he had a 7.6 WAR while JT's was 4.3 this year. I leave the actual critical analysis of return and value to MarlinsLou
December 12, 20187 yr I'm just relieved to hear more teams are still involved allowing us to still dictate a stronger return. I keep getting worried that teams are backing off and we're screwed.
December 12, 20187 yr Interesting take, Marlins are trying to pick a winner and teams keep jumping back into the mix... as opposed to the idea that teams are backing away by the minute. This is good, it obviously implies that we still have good leverage. Wonder where the truth lies.

December 12, 20187 yr I’d feel bad for JT because I don’t trust Cincinnati to get their act together for him and compete. I believe this team would give him a chance to change his mind about the extension contract signing before they make a deal with Cincinnati.
December 12, 20187 yr I do like all of those 3Bs. Also Jonathan India is a Broward County guy so he fits the whole “bring in local guys” vibe even though they ignored Broward on the Colores rollout (and it shouldn’t really matter anyway )

December 12, 20187 yr So much misinformation thrown out by these GM's. It is such a game of chicken. Now, from "Marlins better do something or they will get so screwed" to "Marlins have teams fighting over Realmuto" (this is how I choose to read what is happening). Love it.

Now, from "Marlins better do something or they will get so screwed" to "Marlins have teams fighting over Realmuto" (this is how I choose to read what is happening). Love it. It's a combination of GMs and different "sources" and "team officials" mixed in with seemingly a thousand beat writers and reporters and bloggers and people who put way too much stock into social media comments. Anyone remember when we didn't even know trades were being discussed and we just found out about a trade in the news or newspapers the day after they were actually completed?
December 12, 20187 yr Anyone remember when we didn't even know trades were being discussed and we just found out about a trade in the news or newspapers the day after they were actually completed? Pony Express trades were cooler.
December 13, 20187 yr The teams that have backed off to look at other options have allowed teams that weren't seriously in the race to move up the ladder and make stronger pushes... this seems to be why there's still such a log jam.
December 13, 20187 yr Doubt some interested teams were just want to know how high our asking price would be for fun and not really interested in JT…
