If the Marlins do what they want and are sustainably good in 2-3 years then him being 29-32 years old is perfectly fine. I mean I know he isn't super young but the talk about his age is making him sound like he's 37 and at the tail end of his career.

With Monte out 4-6 weeks, would it be possible for the Marlins to bring him up to the majors for a non-official call up to get experience interacting with the team and learning from the veterans? Is there a rule that says that a guy who is not on the 25 man roster can't be in the dugout during games? I would have to imagine that the experience would be more helpful to his career then spending it with the aaa team. When he is set to come off the IL, then he can either be kept on as a September call up or sent back to triple a potentially for rehab games or to play in the minor league playoffs.

 

Plus he is good buddies with Isan Diaz so they if they can keep them together it's got to be a plus, right?

 

 

A guy on the MLB IL can be in the dugout but I don't think they can call up Monte while he's on the minor league IL. He would have to be activated then called up then put on the MLB IL to do what you're saying.

We need the Giants to be buyers. Our number one asset available are relief pitchers and the Giants have 3 of the best relievers on the market in Smith, Dyson, and Watson. Giants might stay neutral, I doubt they'll be adding any pieces. They'll trade Smith if they get a hell of an offer, Mad Bum ain't going nowhere

Actually the Mets are such a shit show that the hole doesn't even have to be that deep for them to take 10 years to get out of it. They prove that almost every year.

It's worth remembering how rough Maybin's and Ziegler's starts were in 2018, yet both got traded. The return may not wow, but (at least some small) trades are very likely.

There's NO chance Sergio Romo isn't traded. A few other guys are very likely to go, but (as long as he doesn't wind up on the IL in the next week) Romo will be traded for some C+ prospect or a comp pick or something relatively minor.

Yes, the player we get back in a Sergio Romo trade will not be someone who is currently in the Major Leagues, it will be a minor league player.

As much as I like Miggy, why?  He isn't part of the long-term plan.

 

We don't just let him go for the sake of letting him go - his leadership & presence have value - but if we can get any kind of reasonable value in return (which shouldn't be a problem at all), you have to do it.

 

 

I like Miggy too, he seems like a really nice guy and a productive player. But yeah, they have to trade him if they are offered a decent return package.

 

It would be cool to see him join a contender and help put them over the top for a title run. It is often guys like him that are the difference makers on contending teams.

 

 

I’d rather they keep Rojas.  He doesn’t have the statistics that would bring players back of any great significance but he has value to our team in terms of leadership clubhouse stuff.  Which normally I’m not that guy to overvalue that but in the case of this marlins team I think they need him specifically and will need him going forward in the next couple of seasons as we start promoting players that we are all excited to see like Isan, Monte, Sixto, etc.

Got to thinking about the Realmuto trade negotiations last night when the Puig trade was announced.  When the Reds were rumored to be in on JT one of the big pieces we were looking for in return was Taylor Trammell. He was dealt last night.  Looking at trammells stats in AA this year he has not been good at all.  Reports aren’t  glowing.  Glad that didn’t come to fruition

Agreed, right now Rojas has more value staying with the team. I think they should sell high on Nick Anderson, don't make the same mistake they did with Conley last year.

 

 

I think only Nick Anderson will be traded at the deadline, which means Smith will stay.
