This is assuming you buy into completely the numbers he put up in 2021 are the numbers he will put up going forward and doesnt revert to the ,800- .850 OPS range.

Honestly with his defense, if he had an .800 OPS on top of that I'd be ecstatic.

And then, of course, as everyone has noted, the health issues. .800 for 77 games won't get me excited but if he did that for 135, 140 ... absolutely.

a. are you also wanting to pay him 18-20 mil aav for that also?

b. do you have faith he will do that for 135-140 games a year for the next 5 years?

To b. I have 0 faith in that happening, and that is why its a risk the Marlins have no business taking.

No, I do not currently have faith in that happening. If we did that on a one year deal with a team option and said "prove it" then I'd throw in an extension.

@Das Texan, do you think Marte is the best and the most realistic option to us ? I really think this team should go all in to acquire him.

no.

the marlins wont and probably shouldnt pay the cost it will to acquire him and they have proven they have no interest in doing that.

Their best option is to make a trade of one of their many young pitchers to acquire a controllable CF.

The same route they should be taking to acquire a catcher.

Beinfest could fix this team

I'm still shocked that he never got picked up by another team as a GM.

Is it possible to acquire one of Reynolds and Ketel ? I'm highly doubt it.

but why when he can get a guaranteed deal without having to prove anything?

Cause he has to prove that he has nothing to prove, right @Michael ?

MLB.com proposes Luzardo for Contreras straight up... I'd do that in a heartbeat.

His offense seems regress in the past two years and have only one year of control left, I'm not sure he's the best option or not. By the way, I just can't imagine how sad Luzardo would be if he's really be traded because of his tremendous yearns for pitching in the Miami, if this team is smart they should keep him and hope he would be great and try to extend him with the most “hometown discount ”.

Pal, you make that trade no questions asked lol and you make it today so the free agents youre trying to sign can see that you’re actively upgrading the team.

Trade for him, extend him.  Make another trade for a CF (or just pony up and re-sign Marte).  Sign a quality innings-eater starter and you've done most of your major moves without drastically affecting the farm, nor have you had to spend a ton.

Agreed. Even if they have to throw in another longshot A player. And imagine the PR in trading Marte for Luzardo only to resign him.

Ng will be touted as a genius akin to what the Yankees did with Aroldis a few years back.
