They're not idiot bandwaggoners, they are being discretionary about their limited dispoable income. The Marlins are not worth it when you weigh it all out...even the Dolphins are a more enjoyable experience than the Marlins....the Marlins are not only bad, but a BORING team to watch. Last offensively, last or near last defensively. They lost more 1-run or 2-run games than anyone else, and that does not fill the stands up ANYWHERE let alone in a town that offers a lot more to do than most any other city.  People have choices, and the Marlins are WAAAAAAAY down on that list. The Marlins also have a reputation around MLB for just not being a smart or good organization. Players will only sign here, and it'll be late because they're desperate they won't get a deal before Spring Training starts or the regular season.

The good majority of us here have sat through 10-20 games a season even when we had the likes of Ed Lucas and Jt Riddle starting games so the quality of the games shouldn't matter. If you only go when they're good cause you have "better" things to do then you're by definition a bandwagon fan. The problem is these idiots in this city have created a self-fulfilling cycle of mediocrity here where they don't go to games cause they "suck"  (even though they have zero knowledge of the team or how they're doing in any given season) and that lack of attendance doesn't allow payroll flexibility.

The bullshit situation here is that MLB shouldn't have even allowed a group like this to buy the team if they weren't willing to spend despite the lack of income. This isn't a new issue, they needed someone like Steve Cohen who regardless was gonna come in and pay whatever it took to take the team to the next level. We all remember when they used to give out heat tickets at Tmobile stores cause they couldn't get anyone to go to the games before the BIG 3...Put the talent in place and people will come out. They've proven it time and again.

I wish we knew the dollar amount in this case.

I'm totally guessing here but I wanna think if the amounts were close Marte would have chosen us over the Mets so him going to that clown show tells me we didn't actually try hard financially.

I agree - if it were close enough (factoring in lack of state income tax, wanting to play here, etc), I think he would've signed with us, even with it being free agency.  But clearly it wasn't that close.

Well the Sandy extension is a big deal and they do have the assets to improve this team via trade so I wouldn't criticize them for those two points alone.

The continuing trend of being cheap is troubling though because even if they do make the right trades and extend the right guys eventually money will have to be spent and there's no sign that's ever gonna happen so far.

Extending Sandy and making trades from the farm ARE good moves.  But they cannot be the only moves........and I don't agree with the idea of selling the whole farm to do that though when you have FA guys that you can pay and that's it.

Totally agree with the cheapness.

This is simultaneously encouraging and frustrating.   Too little too late......morons.......hopefully now they realize what it'll actually take to sign someone.

This.  Miami fans WILL show up if the team is exciting and winning.  We need ownership that is willing to bite the monetary bullet and spend at a high level for at least a few years CONSISTENTLY to show people they mean business, and then you can transition to a more conservative approach as needed......but I feel like, as you point out, if they'd spend and help overcome the past image, people would start supporting them and thus they'd have higher revenue to spend more.

As I posted in the other thread, my guess is their final offer was 3 or 4 years, $60M

I don’t see how it was a strong offer then. 4 years, 70M best offer isn’t strong IMO, sorry 🤷🏼‍♂️

It'd be a weak offer and that's probably the best it was.

They believe they would have better options in the off-season so didn't do their best to try to extend him before the last trade deadline.

They think he's the best option now and do their best to try to sign him but outbid by the Mets.

It's just an organization that running by a group of morons …

Stop supporting. Basically it.

I'm taking the Stanton "watch from afar" approach if/when they botch this offseason.
