Just watch all the other teams add on and do nothing. Just wait!  Only been what, 3 weeks now.

Honestly, what this team use to compete with other teams if reluctant to spend !? Hall of fame CEO or the first ever female GM !?

One CF fallback option gone …

$13.25M a year for 2 years? Not bad at all.

Marlins FO wishing every FA would sign for $3M a year like, "jeez, why can't they just not be so greedy!"

To be honest it can be done they’re just really shitty and valuing players and no one wants to come here. Look what the Sox got from Renfroe last year for $3.1M. They genuinely don’t make the playoffs without him.

You're right about Renfroe, but he only helped them make the playoffs because they had a good roster around him. The Marlins would've sucked even if Renfroe was on their team. So yes, they need guys like that but they also need more expensive guys and they have yet to show they are willing to pay the price for one.

No of course, but throw Alex Jackson into that lineup and see if he hits 31 bombs and puts up an .800+ OPS. My point was they were able to acquire a good individual talent for relatively nothing. I agree with you 100% that they need 3-4 more good, established players (at least one of them being “name-brand” to excite these idiot band wagoners to come out).

This is gonna have to be defined monetarily. If they didn't amp up the dollar amount then they didn't try that hard. Lowballing and then crossing your fingers because you know he likes playing in Miami isn't really trying when it comes to free agency.

I would love to be proven wrong though but I don't see it in this case.

He signed for 4/78 so “really hard” was lower than that.  Some of us predicted this though. They can now say “we tried” and that will work and be enough for some fans.

I wish we knew the dollar amount in this case.

I'm totally guessing here but I wanna think if the amounts were close Marte would have chosen us over the Mets so him going to that clown show tells me we didn't actually try hard financially.

Agreed

Well the Sandy extension is a big deal and they do have the assets to improve this team via trade so I wouldn't criticize them for those two points alone.

The continuing trend of being cheap is troubling though because even if they do make the right trades and extend the right guys eventually money will have to be spent and there's no sign that's ever gonna happen so far.

They're not idiot bandwaggoners, they are being discretionary about their limited dispoable income. The Marlins are not worth it when you weigh it all out...even the Dolphins are a more enjoyable experience than the Marlins....the Marlins are not only bad, but a BORING team to watch. Last offensively, last or near last defensively. They lost more 1-run or 2-run games than anyone else, and that does not fill the stands up ANYWHERE let alone in a town that offers a lot more to do than most any other city.  People have choices, and the Marlins are WAAAAAAAY down on that list. The Marlins also have a reputation around MLB for just not being a smart or good organization. Players will only sign here, and it'll be late because they're desperate they won't get a deal before Spring Training starts or the regular season.

I still think they are setting up the team to be sold...perhaps after 2022 or 2023 season. Jeter is entering the last year of his contract & not heard of anything on an extention contract. Sandy is the only long-term deal, and that is very team-friendly....they are mostly debt free....sounds like a team that will be given to an owner that will have a blank canvas to do what his billionaire's heart desires.

Ownership is making way too much money to sell the team, valuations havent increased that much since they bought so no real incentive to actually see anytime soon at this point.
