July 28, 20224 yr Me:Ng, you don't believe in a player to perform in the majors and you sign him to play in the minors !? Ng : You know you need some nobody to play the minor league games. Me : …………
July 28, 20224 yr But let's keep playing Astudillo.... Another example of why this team is fucking stupid... Keep trotting out the same shit instead of trying other options -------------- "It’s their organization they can operate how they like..." - Pretty obvious they want to keep doing the same things that don't work...
July 28, 20224 yr The problem with this for me is, they can absolutely not believe in him (and frankly, they are probably right. He has a .396 BABIP and is unlikely to hit very far over .200 at the MLB level).... but as a non-contender at this point, they can still absolutely get him 100 PA at the MLB level and see if the hail mary lands. He does have 30 bombs last 2 years. See if lightning strikes like Fortes turning on another gear at MLB level. The worst case scenario is he is a DFA before Rule V draft. They should give him a shot after the trade deadline. I don't think we should care about this today, but if they don't try everyone out and cut Astudillo loose come August 3rd, that is really inept.
July 28, 20224 yr So the thing is, Charles LeBlanc, Bryson Brigman, Tommy Eveld...they all PROBABLY suck at baseball. But guys like Erik Gonzalez, Willians Astudillo, and Jeff Brigham? They DEFINITELY suck at baseball, we already know that for sure. Why not take the 10% chance that one of those guys ends up being good instead of the 100% chance that these other guys are awful? I knew Astudillo would be a problem on a Mattingly managed team as soon as I read that the Marlins signed him. "He hits the ball" is all the analysis Mattingly's peanut brain can do, not realizing that Willians Astudillo hits the ball softer than any other player currently in Major League Baseball.

Who else can throw a 40mph DP though? I'll wait.

July 28, 20224 yr I mean thats painfully obvious, but it speaks to a far larger issue, which has been talked about ad-nauseum.. the upper minors depth is god awful that they are bringing in players to fill spots in the upper minors that they will never promote because well they have nobody for those spots. its a two pronged problem of being a. cheap and b. many years of bad overall drafts well and c. bad development of talent its pointless and its why this organization is going nowhere anytime soon honestly. to think you can break camp with 26 guys and have no depth to account for any injury is quite frankly stupid.

This is your favorite GM’s fault. Please take her.

This is where you constantly lose me as it isn't accurate and it is being critical just because the team is bad. We should be objective even if pissed off. This is pretty solid for an AAA call up squad. Yea, they need a better AAA SS to avoid Gonzalez here. Absolutely. That's the critique I have. Also, Williams was an early acquisition so yea, maybe they should have found a better MI for AAA opening day (again, this is a better SS for sure).... but they did have Isan Diaz and well, maybe they should have kept him as he's going off in AAA for SF. That's another story though. C - Fortes (now Henry) -> FV40 prospects. Good 1B - Lewin -> Was a FV45 prospect. Good. 2B - Williams -> Was FV40 prospect. Good SS - Gonzalez 3B - Williams again OF - DLC, Bleday, Burdick -> DLC is a mess, but the others are high end prospects SP - Garrett, Cabrera, Meyer, even Neidert here - > Enormous potential RP - Fleets of guys, namely Pop who didn't break with the team, Poteet (who was a Floro replacement), Castano, and Nance - > Mostly FV40 or projectable relievers. All good here. How good of a player do you expect to be stashed in AAA at all times? Do you expect them to run 7 deep per position group of .5 WAR players to be able to treadwater with 2-3 layers of deep injuries which they've had (When has Jazz-Wendle-Anderson-Rojas-Berti all been healthy)? This is high end pitching, legitimate FV 45-40 prospects across the board besides SS. Fortes, Garret, Williams, Pop, and Poteet have legitimately been good in their roles when able to play. No credit here and just focus on they suck as a team? So they don't have a SS in AAA? Astudillo, Gonzalez, Dunand, Hamilton, and Jerar don't even have 125 PA. That's what we're bitching about? A better 125 PA from a better AAAA SS as presumably that player would soak up all of those PA as they'd move bodies around to the OF around them? I mean yea sure, get a better person for that one spot. This isn't moving the needle in any direction. It's just too much of a pity party. We have SO MANY things to complain about (see below) but saying they have nobody for these spots is just missing the forest in the trees. This then goes back to what the real root of the problem is - why is DLC getting 220 PA when you could have just gotten a fucking center fielder in the offseason and resolved this entire problem that was known day 1? This then dovetails into, why is Aguilar on the team for the triple DH redundancy, where you could have then just gotten some veteran that plays 1B/2B/3B to help out more, and Anderson could pop out into the OF to help Sanchez growing pains. Which should have been anticipated. All roads lead back to the failure to get a CF and the Aguilar positional debacle once they signed Soler. Getting those spots ironed out creates positional flexibility, where they could just call up a bat from the minors versus struggling to fit someone like Astudillo into a square roster hole. This is the issue!!!!!! You know it too, we talked about this the entirety of March daily as to WTF are they doing. Bitching about the backend of the 40 man roster in AAA because 2 major infielders have been hurt simultaneously the entire year is a drop of water in the sea of what is wrong here. Their depth is fine. It's actually pretty good - look at Berti thriving! These guys can trade all of Aguilar, Cooper, Berti, Wendle/Rojas (one), Bass, Floro, Okert, and Sulser, and have 22/23 of the 26 man roster spots already locked up next year... and that's with Meyer hurt! This is the definition of depth. (Yes I realize they need big impact with those last 3-4 roster spots but that is also, another story and will they spend or trade to do it.) They have been really really really injured, the lack of a CF + Aguilar makes no positional sense, and on top of that, this is magnified because Aguilar, DLC, Garcia, Stallings, Soler, Hernandez, and Rogers have been really really really bad. I say, let's focus the energy on criticizing them for doing stupid shit like this. Not worrying that Astudillo is 7th on the 2B/3B depth chart because when any organization goes that low, you're already fucked (however, I hope the LeBlancs do come up after the trade deadline and especially September). To end - they will go somewhere when they get a CF, an IF upgrade, and a bullpen upgrade + Eury, Berry, Eder, and Sixto breaking onto the team ideally next summer. Quite frankly, they can solve the first this deadline/offseason, and that'll get us to the Super2 deadline. This isn't as bad as some of you want to make it but Bruce will have to spend something and Kim will have to finally trade something for real offensive help. It's that easy. But yes, we all have doubts they will do that because they are cheap and who knows.
July 28, 20224 yr Someone go tell Sherman how cheap Leblanc's contract would be vs Aguilar's and he'd be up yesterday.

A good part of me wants to, and I definitely don’t watch games daily anymore (for that matter I don’t think I’ve tuned into a full game in one sitting this year), but it’s hard to just detach completely.

Same. I watched a ton of games early on but once Jazz went out especially I was like meh. They actually went on a mini win streak for a bit there too but we all knew it was a mirage as they always match the wins with losses and then some. Just tired of our stupid GM just refusing to budge and try some kids out and move on from some of the vets that don't belong in this team. It's such an immensely boring product. Even Rojas pisses me off now with his pleading for patience. It's been over half the season bro and not one of y'all are showing signs of life. GTFO

GTFO I agree with the thinking that there’s no need to knee jerk ready and panic a few weeks into the season but like you said we’re well last that now and we still see the same stupidity over and over. It’s not worth giving my time to.

July 29, 20224 yr Seems like Craig Mish is wrong again because it sounds like they’re promoting LeBlanc.
