Just read that Segura seems to have been a result of trade talks between the marlins and Mets for Eduardo Escobar stalling over the Correa situation. Idk if I would have been happy with trading within the division. I’m assuming it would have been pitching going in that direction.

No I agree 100%, I just find it dumb that they were gonna trade within the division for a player that doesn’t move our needle that much and send pitching to the best team in the division that probably makes it even better.

He was DFA’d as far as I know (unless I missed some thing) so still need to go through the wire to see if anyone swings a trade which won’t happen considering the money he’s owed. But once he’s released they should 100% sign him.

He set to be a FA this Friday. ESPN claims that they surveyed about 20 GMs and nobody is willing to sign him to take that massive PR hit. 

Realistically, if a team DID sign him I can guarantee that if he dominates like he used to and turns that team into a force then in a couple months none of the casual fans will care though. Sure, there will always be some voices but the casual fan (and most die-hards) care about winning first and foremost. Loads of athletes across sports have done worse (Vick et al) and have come back to be beloved again because they just win.

If he only wants money I'm sure he could go pitch overseas for a kings ransom for a year too.

I still believe some MLB team will sign him to a one year deal and he'll be just as good as before and may even make a sexy trade deadline acquisition if he's that good.

Oh for sure, none of them are gonna admit it cause then that reporter writes some trash piece about them. But trust me they will. He’s got one more year on his deal so they’ll have him for league minimum. That’s a fuckin no brainer.

Nah, man. Even if charges were dropped, even if stuff was "consensual," I'm not cool with what he did - took it too far. I don't want him anywhere near this team.

I dunno, sport aspect (and even Bauer really) aside I've had a life long friend who's live was utterly obliterated because nobody would give him a second chance.  He got convicted of statutory rape, has to register as sex offender wherever he goes and he's literally never been able to find work other than shit jobs like washing dishes for money under the table (and that's even rare too). 

Now, you hear "well, he's a pedo, rapist etc so who gives a shit about him"

He was convicted of statutory rape as a 19 yr old who hooked up with a girl for one night after meeting her in a club that was 18+ only. She used a fake ID to get in so he had ZERO reason to think she was 16.  This information WAS also presented in court and the girl openly admitted to it but it did NOT matter. The only way that info helped was to avoid actual prison time.  The judge gave him 8 fucking years of probation. He could not drink a drop, he could not leave Hillsborough county, and he was made to move out of his parents house because his two younger brothers were not yet legal (one was 17 and the other 15). He had 8 years of random piss tests and random drop ins from his probation officer.  This entire time he'd find odd jobs working here and there for under the table money as I said but inevitably with those jobs also comes risks and in each instance the owner of the restaurant would screw him over and just decide to not pay him some week - but NOBODY will take the word of a convicted "sex offender" over an "upstanding business owner". 

Anyway, to wrap things up, he never did get a second chance and that was now 20+ years ago.  He ended up hitting deep depression and turning to drugs after he got off probation and just became a shell of himself.  He finally did start committing crimes here and there - always petty theft because he couldn't find an actual job that would hire him once they saw he was a convicted felon and, even worse, a sex offender.  100% was not his fault that he hooked up with that girl but the laws are what the laws are and in the end the state chose to prosecute and it was an open and shut case.

Anyway, yeah, long post, but I'm always willing to give another chance to someone especially in instances where charges have been dropped as clearly there's not enough evidence which also likely means we don't know the full story.  Just my 0.02.  Ya'll are entitled to feel how you want though.

My problem is who are any of us to decide? Fuck the court of public opinion, if the actual court system didn’t put him in jail then he can play baseball. It’s illegal to discriminate housing based on prior arrests, it should be illegal for employers to do so if your alleged crime (that he wasn’t even convicted of) doesn’t impact your ability to do that particular job.  I get not letting a pedophile teach kindergarten, but as far as I’m concerned he is not a criminal because he was never convicted of a crime. And this isn’t 1982, ask Bill Cosby and Weinstein if dudes still get away with sexual assault just cause they’re “somebody”.
