He's going to hit 25 homers this year because of that. Good point with #2

May 9, 20233 yr If Bleday ends up being the big lefty bat we needed for Oakland it’s time for me to unlace em and just walk away for good.

May 9, 20233 yr Yeah this offense was going to be bad whether Jazz hits or not, but is lack of production is a great disappointment. He looks really, really bad. You have to have your "stars" perform.

I know you get frustrated with Taiwan there but it still does kinda fall on him for not getting any of the big bats we clearly needed - especially with Correa going though all of the deals that fell through. The offense (or lack thereof) has once again been the issue and one that he largely failed to address yet again ( see also: Realmuto, Marte, et al). The irony here is that by approving the signing of the mediocre bats they've brought in they could have had one of the impact guys they so desperately have needed for years now had he just not been cheap. Not saying that that's all there is to it but clearly guys he should have brought back like JT and Marte who had PROVEN they could hit here is largely on Sherman imo. aside from that, for whatever reason, literally every home grown prospect we've had since Sherman's group has taken over has SUCKED. Literally every single bat has failed to do a goddamn thing. That's gotta be some weird organizational method that they're using that is failing all of these guys. May 9, 20233 yr Yeah, they let Brian Anderson go and actually managed to replace him with someone who is even worse both defensively and offensively...and by a lot. Those couple of pathetic swings from his knees by Segura made me cringe so hard. Edited May 9, 20233 yr by LordMagnus
May 9, 20233 yr Why bring up Burdick who was tearing up AAA, and sit him on the bench? Why does Skip continue to play Segura everyday and better yet, why does he continue to hit him 6th in the lineup? I think it's time to fake an injury so he can get a rehab stint in AAA and get some ABs there. In the meantime, let's put Hampson at short and Wendle at 3rd. Berti can be the super utility as usual. Why do we keep rotating shitbird relievers from AAA? Smeltzer, Quezada, Chi Chi? It might be time to bring up Eury. That will put Hoeing in the bullpen, where he might be decent. That's is until Trevor returns, at which point we put Brax in the pen for long relief. For God's sake, get rid of Stallings and bring up McIntosh already! Make some changes now to try to improve the team instead of waiting until it's too late. That's my rant for the day. LOL

LOL Every day that passes and these things happen I am more bold in my thinking that the FO (aka Ng) is the one making these roster lineup and bench decisions.
June 9, 20233 yr Author Jean Segura should be either moved to SS, or ideally traded. While overall in his career he has been a decent to good player, it just hasn't translated to the Marlins this season. 184 ABs so far and batting .190 with 0 HR and just 8 Rbi and an OPS of .476. The player he directly replaced was Charles LeBlanc. And while LeBlanc isn't exactly having a stellar season himself, just for comparisons sake, so far LeBlanc has 157 ABs and is batting .223 with 6 HRs 18 RBI 2 triples and an OPS of .760. I understand that the Marlins were looking for a real answer to 3B after Brian Anderson left. But so far, Jean Segura isn't it. He has been very valuable defensively, but his bat in the lineup has just been useless. I know the Marlins are paying him a good salary this season, so I don't see them benching him any time soon if he's healthy. It's like "Well, we're not paying him all this money to just sit around." And while he might be a great person and fun in the clubhouse, the Marlins should really consider making that change at 3B. Either move Segura to SS and call up LeBlanc. Or even better, trade Segura and call up Amaya and have him play SS and either LeBlanc or Wendle play third. Wouldn't be a great long term solution maybe, but would definitely improve things having Amaya and LeBlanc or Wendle hitting every day in Segura's spot in the lineup.
June 15, 20233 yr I feel like too many guys are trying to clobber the ball. DLC is swinging out of his shoes at high and inside pitches. Cooper's swing is hilariously bad. He over swings at everything and yet his bat looks way too slow. He also swings at a ton of balls. Sanchez has cooled off considerably. I feel like teams know he's trying to got he other way and are pitching him differently. He needs to lay off the balls and learn to hit those high strikes. Segura is Segura. I don't care about Davis much. He actually plays good defense and his hitting is less offensive than some other players... Fortes needs to keep the majority playing time. He's better than Stallings in every way. Still, they need to figure out this base stealing thing. A lot of it is on the pitchers, but it needs to get better. Arraez is in a funk, he's human. I do feel like he swings at a lot of balls. Teams are starting to position better against him.
June 15, 20233 yr I'd also like to start seeing a sense of urgency from the FO while we're still over .500 and make some serious adjustments now like dumping Stallings, AVI, and Segura and maybe trying to move Cooper for whatever they can get. Our schedule gets considerably tougher after the Nats series and remains so for the rest of the season for the most part so address some of the issues before we slide back to .500 or worse. We don't wanna become the Cardinals.

For guys like DLC and possibly even Sanchez, opposing pitchers are starting to learn them and have adjusted. Now, it's up to DLC and Sanchez to make counter-adjustments. Arraez was hitting over .400. That obviously wasn't sustainable. He was due for a slump. Not worried about him long term, though. He has never been one to take a ton of walks, but he is a lifetime .323 hitter so he has always been able to mitigate his lack of patience. He'll be fine. He's had a large enough sample size over four-and-a-half years. I also think there might actually be some unfamiliar pressure on these guys and they're feeling it. Let's face it: this is the first time the Marlins have been genuinely competitive in like seven years (excluding the shortened 2020 campaign). Not only that, but opponents are likely taking the Marlins more seriously now. It's not like previous years where the Marlins were already done at this point. They are playoff contenders. It will be interesting to see how things play out between now and the trade deadline. Will these guys fold, or are they for real?

You know today I was just looking at the standings and seeing the Marlins are 2nd place in NL East and just 4.5 games back of Atlanta on June 15th. The thought came to my head that the Marlins have an actual legitimate shot of being in first place in the NL East at the All Star break. Come to think of it, the Marlins are playing the Braves in exactly 2 weeks from tomorrow for a 3 game weekend series.. it's still a ways away of course, but Marlins have a chance to make a lot of ground in the standings during that series. Of course the Braves have a much easier schedule than the Marlins between now and June 30th, they will play the Rockies, Phillies, Reds and Twins and the Marlins will play the Nats, Blue Jays, Pirates and Red Sox. But well, you never know how things will go with baseball. So it will be quite a ride between now and then and let's see how far back, if at all, the Marlins are by the time the Braves series starts..

Garrett has a decent amount of trade value now + he wouldn’t even be considered in the starting rotation if Rogers, Max & Sixto were healthy coming into the season. Can Garrett really keep on this current production long term anyway? Trading your 5th starter+ prospects isn’t the worst position a team could be in. Adding another PROVEN bat will make up the difference & more. I agree though, they need urgency now rather than later.

I'm probably the biggest Sixto fan here, but expecting him to be healthy at this point is a pipe dream. You can never trade a pitcher with the expectation that Sixto may fill his shoes. Meyer has great stuff, but he's a prospect, and for what it's worth, I absolutely do not think he would have been ahead of Garrett on the depth chart even if he were healthy. Garrett started 17 games last season and was actually pretty good. It's not like he's some nobody, either. The dude was the seventh overall pick for a reason. As for Rogers, I still like him, but he really hasn't been very good for a year-and-a-half now. I would rather Rogers takes Cabrera's spot than Braxton's. Let's also not forget that Eury will be shut down at some point, so Rogers can also slot in for him if Cabrera stays in the rotation. Unless it's part of a package for a truly elite hitter, I don't think moving Garrett is the best idea at the moment. Edited June 16, 20233 yr by Valid
