I did leave out Burger because he is the lone person who I think I can hit 30+.  I wanted to take a look at the other pieces of the line up because I think we all agree he's probably the most promising part of the line up.

As for Soler, his numbers are usually low in years where he gets injured.  He was on a good home run pace in his first year with the Marlins until injuries hit him badly.  Being a DH would help mitigate a lot of that.  Right now, does the team really have a proper DH? 

I see other people mentioning the lack of Jacob Stallings, but we don't exactly have someone to replace him who is all that great.  Last year was really disappointing at the catcher position as we all figured the guy who's name I can't remember right now would at least be decent, but he was bad.

But honestly how can you say theres no power and leave off the guy who had almost an identical output as perennial injury risk Soler? 

I just feel like people are having this knee-jerk reaction to losing Soler when there are multiple other power sources on the team. If Bell hits 25hrs (heck, even 20) like you mentioned was possible then a full season from him and Burger should be more than enough to cover for losing Soler in the lineup. 

 

The team needs guys who can get on base and steal bags more than it needs the big home run guys who strike out a ton, can't play defense, and are below average speed wise.

Yeah, I don't know if I have another rebuild in me as far as following the team closely goes - I'll still care in the sense of wanting them to do well and win, but I'd probably join the bandwagon group at that point lol.

Specifically, who on this roster right now is better?  Name someone.  I don't view Burger and Bell as replacements, because the Marlins had Burger, Bell, and Soler last year.  He wasn't replaced at all. He was allowed to walk.  Bell could be a DH, but then you just have another gaping hole at first base offensively.

They had 1/3 of a season of Burger and Bell. A full season of both will replace a good chunk, but in fairness, not all of it.

Burger's approach seemed to improve when he arrived here, not sure exactly what they changed. Bell is Bell.

Alternatively, bring Cooper back on a minor league deal? IDK. Lol.

Shoot if Bellinger's still available in two weeks, give him a low-ball offer and see what happens.

hell, you could even let Mr. Glass take the DH role here and there to "rest" him.  I really don't get the vitriol with not bringing Soler back. He's been pretty meh for almost his entire career - whether it's been injuries or performance (including his first season here).  There is more than enough power scattered across the team to make up for losing him too as listed above in this thread.  Again, the issue was not that they let Soler peace out without the QO but rather they didn't do shit to replace him with what they really need in the lineup (high obp%/speed type player). 

It's a fools errand to continue trying to build a power team in this park.
