Girardi's Future With This Team
Can we get an "assistant manager" or someone like that to handle the in-game stuff and let Joe work with the players? An advisor, maybe?

iTunes 7.0 Kicks Ass
how do you get album covers on your itunes? I was wondering the same thing. You have to set up an account in the Store (don't worry, you don't have to buy anything) and then go to Advanced>Get Album Artwork and it will go through and download the artwork for any music you have on iTunes that's available for purchase in the Apple Store. In Edit>Preferences>General tab there is also a checkbox to add the missing artwork for any music you import.

NCAA Football Week 3 Discussion
I loved this one. "Coach em up, Kirk: what do they have to do?" "Uh...recruit some faster players."

Is it safe to say we are done for?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K92OVFeGgIE They don't still use that clip for the bottom of the 9th when we're losing, do they? My memory is a little fuzzy.

No mo JoBo in the endo
I'd agree, but I don't really know who we'd put in his place. The rest of the bullpen has looked even worse.

Never Forget 9/11/01
Here's the end of a bit I wrote about 9/11 on my blog: "What will our successors think when they read about that day and how we reacted to everything that happened? Many years from now, I hope that they will discover that we managed to take a misanthropic act of violence and transform it into a catalyst. That we served as an example of the power of liberty and respect for the rights of the individual over those who would seek to eliminate that liberty. That we would all go our separate ways, attempting to realize our most wishful dreams, to capitalize on our greatest opportunities, and in doing so, strengthened not only ourselves as individuals, but the world as a whole. And that while memories fade and generations will grow up not having lived through the shock of that Tuesday morning, its legacy will never be forgotten." RIP to everyone who perished on that day.

Resop becoming reliable
Isn't the postseason roster based on anyone on the 40 man roster, not the 25 man roster? I thought this was how they were able to swap Cliff Floyd and John Wehner in the 1997 postseason. Me too, how can you just base your post season roster on just one day? What happens someone comes off the DL Sept 2nd (Big name player)? It doesnt make sense. On some forums fans are coming up with their post season rosters... why would they do that id they know who is going to be on kwim? Players who were on the DL are eligible. But is everyone on the 40 man roster eligible? No. You have to be on the 40-man (on the 31st of August) to qualify as an injury replacement. Now the "injury replacement" thing is a bit of a stretch: if you guys remember that in '02 K-Rod was added as an injury replacement, according to ESPN.com he was replacing someone who was placed on the DL before the season even started, thus making him "eligible" for the postseason roster. So I'm now wondering if we could put Resop on the roster as an injury replacement for someone like Carlos Martinez. Anyone know if this loophole still exists?

Florida Marlins screen features.
I had Panthers season tickets when I still lived in Florida and sat in the upper deck, when the team was bad there were some hecklers who made fun of everything, including screaming SAY NO!!!! to a proposal one time.

Resop becoming reliable
So in conclusion, the only way Resop would be on the roster is if a pitcher who was on the 25 on the last day of August gets hurt and we need an injury replacement.

Marlins Probables
I'm definitely going on Tuesday or Wednesday. I hope people show up for this series! "People" will. Marlins fans? Well that's a different story. :plain

Bullpen
The way I feel about this is that in a situation like last night where your starter goes 4 2/3...most teams aren't going to feel particularly good about those games. The back end of the bullpen guys are in that role because they've been deemed unreliable in tight spots. So even though the game was still close, you're using pitchers who don't have a lot of experience in close games and the experience they do have isn't particularly good (see: Messenger). As with pretty much every other team in MLB, we're going to have a hard time winning without a good performance from our SP.

Coolest Minor League Team
Myself, I am kinda partial to the Durham Bulls for obvious reasons. I wanna see someone hit that damn bull one of these days.

Ohhhhhh boy...
I really liked Whitlock's comment about doing "something amazing every year." For the most part lately, that's been true, hasn't it?
-
Ohhhhhh boy...
On PTI: "Does Florida deserve the Marlins?" Kornheiser and Whitlock are slurping on Beinfest/baseball staff. Kornheiser's like, "Someone in this organization knows what they are doing as far as scouting players, making trades..." Whitlock says, "Can these guys come to Kansas City? I'm stuck with the Royals and Le Batard gets the Marlins, who do something incredible every season??"

Ohhhhhh boy...
Topic: in context of the no-hitter, who do you blame for the Marlins' low attendance? :plain Plaschke: Stadium isn't covered, ownership keeps gutting the team, there's no continuity. DON'T BLAME THE FANS. Mariotti: Stadium is terrible, needs to be downtown. MacMullan: Beinfest is doing a great job putting these teams together when they trade everyone, once people see how the kids play, they should be coming.

Co Rec Flag Football
How'd you guys do blitz rules...1 every 4 downs and after a 3 second count? We actually had an offensive line (3 players) so you could blitz any down if you wanted to. If I was ever in on offense I'd usually be a blocking back to pick up a blitz and give a short outlet to the QB.

Anyone else find it ironic...
First off, 1.5 is nothing ito any other team but ours... and what did we really expect out of him? If Moehler can be effective out of the pen like he has been lately, he has value to this team. Out of the pen, okay. But why is he starting Saturday night (Sept 9) vs. the Phils? To spot them a 4-run lead in the 1st inning? Ricky's still out--who else do you want? Moehler bounced back well after the tough first in his last start to eat some innings. A rookie in the same situation probably doesn't do that.

ESPN Review The Replay
Well, for those of us who watched it, the error call was a no-brainer. It was unfortunate (at the time) that Miggy was charged with the E when Jake could have made a better effort at staying on the bag, but the baserunner clearly would have been out with an adequate throw. Easily. I'll agree that the final out looked bang-bang when ESPN showed it at normal speed, though on Cold Pizza they revealed that ESPN's video geeks actually examined the footage frame-by-frame and were "positive" that Byrnes was out. They showed a fuzzy looking frame of the ball presumably in Helms' glove (it wasn't in the air) and Byrnes' foot still not on the bag. I'd say it looks deceiving in real speed because Byrnes was running fast enough to beat the throw. Unfortunately for him, he had to cut short his last couple of steps so he could catch the bag in stride. I'm watching Cold Pizza right now--he was out.

Co Rec Flag Football
If you are tall and have a quarterback who has a semi-decent arm you will dominate. I'm athletic but never played competitive football but at 6'4" I caught a ton of passes. That's why after a while I just played defense, cause at my height there was no way I was getting the ball with any regularity, but I'm still pretty fast so I could cover or blitz pretty well.

Co Rec Flag Football
I was on an IM flag football team that almost got into an onfield brawl with some whiny law students. Fun times. When we played teams with girls, they mostly didn't do anything either way--just ran around and didn't get the ball. We actually had a bizarre rules system: there was a ref whose only job was timekeeper, he couldn't call any penalties...even when one time our QB just threw one more or less straight up in the air forcing a jump ball between 5-5 me and a 6-2 guy on the other team who shoved me down for no reason.

To Rich Waltz and Tommy Hutton,
For the people in the Chicago and Boston markets, we kinda got embarrassed with this no hitter. They were talking to Capozzi from the PBP in the 8th inning and the first question was "What is the atmosphere like there, are people aware of what's going on and is there excitement in the crowd?" and he goes "Well, it's funny because there are probably only 3 or 4 thousand people here..."

Page 2 pieces aren't meant to be in-depth analysis. I mean, come on, he gave the Phillies 100,000 to 1 odds! I don't know how everyone got so worked up over it.
