there are a lot of players on that list that I was thinking "what if".

I do stand by my word that the Marlins WILL get Manny in LF. I know it is still a pipe dream, but Miami is the perfect fit for him. His family is here, no pressure by the media, no pressure from fans...it's prefect for the Marlins, vetren leader, great #s, FANS.

Spend Marlins Spend, and get Manny NOW while we have a chance!

He isn't perfect. He'd be horrible for this team. He'd ruin payroll, create clubhouse problems, would regress in performance as he is older, still can't play defense, and who knows how much longer he can play in LF. We are idiots if we sink $80 million into him.

Same reasons people said we would sign ARod...gotta be realistic though.

I think we'll be doing most of our offseason work through trades.

Nice to see LoDuca and Gonzo as B free agents though...at least we get something back if someone signs them.

Lo Duca, IDK. Gonzo? After a career-threatening injury to Cliff Floyd, I see Tampa having more than just a mild interest.

I only see us looking at Catchers or RP’s. No other position players that might, possibly, kind of, maybe, sorta be affordable would likely give production that is significantly superior to what we already have. As a point of reference……

Free Agent Catchers Career Stats vs. LHP + ‘08 stats:

(I included only those who bat RH vs. LHP)

As an aside, Lo Duca vs. LHP in 2007 - 126 AB: .341/.376/.867, and in 2006 - 152 AB: .336/.373/.833

Pudge vs. LHP in 2007 - 126 AB: .302/.302/.746, and in 2006 - 156 AB: .340/.385/.891

Zaun vs. LHP in 2007 - 69 AB: .290/.391/.797, and in 2006 - 51 AB: .373/.492/1.120

I showed you these stats because they are old and there was a significant drop-off between their career numbers and their 2008 numbers. These could be aberrations or just aging, I’m not sure.

The career numbers that appeal to me for Baker’s platoon partner are those of Olivo, Ausmus, Bard, Barrett, Lo Duca, Pudge, David Ross, Varitek, and maybe Zaun and Toby Hall (although he raked vs. LHP in 2008).

Varitek and Pudge all probably right out because of salary demands.

Age 37+ catchers make me nervous - my preference (not knowing salary demands) would be Josh Bard, Michael Barrett, or David Ross.

Where would the others’ salary demands fall - Olivo, Bard, Barrett, Ross? Also Lo Duca and Ausmus?
