On a related note, Pinto has walked 9 in 7 IP since joining the Cardinals' system.

Good to hear all that. With the struggles of our pen earlier this year, Pinto seemed relatively decent or at least "not as bad" and then when he was sent out... too many people on here defended him when we're seemingly all wanted his head off for years here! He was consistently inconsistent and his role demands him to be better than that. And he simply was not that good at what his job was... and that's it... goodbye dork chop.

Pinto actually threw a scoreless inning tonight. And not even a single inherited runner scored.

There's a first time for everything :brigginbounce No lie.

You make me want to choke a young Miguel Cabrera.

Most people just call it the "chicken"

If anything, this thread is a knock on Fredi Gonzalez, not Pinto. So much for those who miss Fredi, and called his firing unfair. Roles in the pen have been established since Edwin took over.

And Veras came back strong, Badenhop returned, etc etc.

Without looking at stats, dates, etc, what came off the top of my head right away was: Badenhop coming back, Hensley coming off his injury or whatever it was, and Veras coming back very strong from the minors. Has he allowed any runs since his apparent death & rebirth?

Not saying anyone or anything that's been said here is wrong, ultimately it's always a combination of things.

Scott Mitchell in NOLA seems to get these guys tuned up like I haven't seen in a long time. Clearly the talent has to be there but does seem to be able to take guys like Badenhop and even Veras, guys who have the experience but have lost their way, or the confidence, or their curveball - and get them focused and ready to pitch at this level. He did it with Nolasco, hopefully he'll do it with Volstad. he has Hensley last season.

On one hand you want to say "well make him the MLB pitching coach", but he's so valuable doing what he's doing, he's sort of the Perry Hill of pitching coaches.

You got it right. It's the combination of these guys coming back and getting the job done far more than it being Fredi's fault. And yet most everyone, not just inclusive to these boards, say it's all because of Edwin. It's not that he's using that pen any differently, it's that he has a better pen to use.

Veras performing strong has been the saving grace of the bullpen as of late, since he allows us to get to the ultra reliable Hensley and Nunez.

I give Edwin credit for pulling Sanabia at exactly the right time last night -

AS had just given up a hit plus a deep fly out to Dunn -

That's a time Fredi might've stuck with the kid & he gets raked for HR or worse -

Just my $.02

Well, we all knew he was getting pulled there for the last few days. It was announced that he was going to be on a strict 80 pitch limit, so he was pulled when he finished a batter at 78. Had he not been on that limit he would have been left in.

Yeah i dont exactly see how the bullpen's improvement is a sign that Edwin is greater thatn Fredi. Badenhop is back and Veras got good all of a sudden. That would help any manager, I dont see how Edwin all of a sudden made that happen, nor how if Fredi was here, that supposedly wouldnt have happened.

pinto sucks and always did suck. i dont care what stats say, he never passed the eye test and was pure hell on the mound. he sucks.

Jets suck, Yankees suck, Knicks suck......Krypton sucks...

Pinto does suck though. I mean Pinto was to the majority of Marlins fans what Jeremy Hermida was to me all these years, and you know how that relationship was.

Anyone seen Edwin Rodriguez use Taylor Tankersley against righties lately? Fredi used to love doing that; good thing it no longer happens.

As for the other guys...Jose Veras was here too when Fredi was around. Just didn't pan out for Fredi. Could it be that these guys from the pen coming up from AAA are more confident now that their former AAA manager is managing in the big leagues? Perhaps there's a better relationship with Edwin and some of the guys out there in the pen.

Everyone disliked keeping Edwin Rodriguez around and firing Fredi...now that there's an improvement in an area that's very important in managing, Edwin Rodriguez gets no credit?

I actually like edwin. when we lose it really is not his fault. I feel comfortable with most of the moves he makes with the pen and late in the game.

Yeah I have no complaints about Edwin at all. We still need to find a real hitting coach though
