The Astros just bought out Singleton, a top prospect, with -0- service time at 22 years old for 5 years plus 3 options.

 

The Marlins didn't buy out Stanton with 93 HR/11.1 WAR after 2 1/2 seasons who turned 23 years old late in the last of those seasons.

 

So now some of you think Loria is going to offer him close to $200 million contract? I just want to make sure I have that right.

That contract would also allow for the possibility of having a financially healthy competitive team going into year 8, and maybe keeping him years 8-10.

Disagree entirely. There is an astronomical better probability he would have declined a 10 year deal as that would prevented him from getting a SECOND major contract IN HIS PRIME. I agree your proposed deal makes sense for THE MARLINS, but then Stanton is giving up the "potential $200 million pay day" by negotiating away the years he would have to sell. Why do you think Trout signed for only 6 years? The Angels would gladly have given him another $100 million to lock up 'his career,' but then Trout is leaving over twice that amount on the table and that is serious money. It's the give and take rub you are not appreciating here. This can't be only organization favorable when we're talking the superstars.

You aren't very good at this.

The Miami Marlins seem to have been willing to trade Giancarlo Stanton for prospects Carlos Correa and George Springer. Granting that Correa is an absolute stud, that Springer has hit fabulously well since his callup earlier this year, and that they're under team control for years while Stanton is starting to get expensive, you still wonder if the Astros will end up kicking themselves over that one. Stanton has the 11th-highest isolated power in major league history for anyone with at least 1,000 at-bats, and is a Gold Glove-caliber outfielder as well; he's a generational talent, the kind you can't really overpay for. (Another way to look at this, of course, is that the embarrassing Marlins franchise was yet again willing to trade away an irreplaceable player so as to pocket some of its dole money.)

Nice work. Cozart and Deshields for Stanton is a joke. Springer and Correa before the season started would have been tempting.At this point, I'd say it's too little.

Either way, still need to get rid of Loria.

Throw Stanton back in the Astros direction, ask for Correa, Springer, and Aiken, and maybe Cosart/DeShields, too, see if they bite. *shrug*
