September 9, 201015 yr We need another starter with a mid 3's ERA. Our bullpen will be fine, I would think, and we could easily scratch someone out that'll compete with all the other #5 starters in the league. The problem is that 4th guy. If that 4th starter is Ricky Nolasco, then we are in great shape. JJ, _____, Anibal, Ricky, Sanabia/West/Miller/Volstad. Honestly, just spend another damn 5-10 Mil and get us a #2 pitcher. We don't exactly need 2 15M/year guys or anything. We have the best value lineup in the majors, we just need that damn pitcher. Which is why I think the Uggla money (i love him.. will hate to see him go) would be better spent on a starter and a bullpen guy (hopefully a closer) plus Ozzie likes speed so he'll let boni run a bunch :whistle will be an interesting off season

I find the odds of finding a good pitcher next season within our organization higher than finding a bat that'll at least somewhat match Uggla's production within our organization. Who would take Uggla's spot in the lineup? The only option I see is Bonifacio. Pair that up with the very large possibility of Maybin struggling next season and we've got 2 guys hiting .240.
September 9, 201015 yr The lineup will also have a full year of Morrison and Coghlan. Hanley should also return to 09 form. I also think Stanton will adjust quicker than most people think he will. Offense won't be a problem w/o uggla, IMO

September 9, 201015 yr This offense would be playoff caliber with or without Uggla. We need pitching, and we need it desperately. It's going to be difficult to get a #2 starter...as a matter of fact, I don't think it's possible. However, it is possible and absolutely necessary to fix the bullpen. The Marlins need to look at the Padres, and realize...we have a better lineup than these people, the top of our rotation's are at least comparable, but our bullpen isn't nearly as good as theirs, and that's the difference. Look at all the teams contending for a playoff spot or in a playoff spot. The majority of those teams have very good bullpens. Also, another reason why I wouldn't mind losing Uggla is because I'm not sure he's worth the money he'd get if he signs. His offense is super, but realistically, he won't be playing 2B much longer, and even if he stays by default, it's not as if he's good or even average anymore, defensively. We can't replace Uggla's offense, but we can get average production offensively at the position and much better defense, in the process. I'd like to keep Uggla, but if we trade him in order to get value in pitching, I wouldn't mind that one bit.
September 9, 201015 yr The lineup will also have a full year of Morrison and Coghlan. Hanley should also return to 09 form. I also think Stanton will adjust quicker than most people think he will. Offense won't be a problem w/o uggla, IMO You have a point but what if Coghlan doesn't return to form and LoMo and Stanton struggle next season? I feel Uggla is a safe bet to give us production offensively (at least 25 HRs, 90 RBIs, 85 Runs Scored) and he needs to be on the team. Bonifacio really isn't a guy I'd want to start everyday, he's a good bench player/spot starter but his numbers probably won't correlate positively as a full time starter. If we sign Uggla I really don't feel it'll be hard to find a solid 2 starter if we put Volstad or West on the block and package one of them with a decent outfield prospect (maybe Cousins). I'd love to get the previously mentioned (I believe by Erick) James Shields from Tampa, they are a team that loves Young Starting Pitching ala Volstad/West and if they lose Crawford will need a backup outfielder to replace whoever is going to be the new stating LF (most likely Joyce if Jennings isn't ready). And to note Shield is pretty for a quality arm. I'd love the rotation of J.J., Big Game James, Anibal, Nolasco(if he's signed) and Sanabia/West/Volstad/Whoever. Bottom line, try to sign Uggla and hope he continues his raking or if anything we could trade him for that number 2 we've been looking and a possible replacement at 2B along with West/Volstad
September 9, 201015 yr i started the season thinking boni was a bad guy to rely on, but he has learned to lay down a good bunt, and has found a little more plate discipline. if coughlan doesn't come back to form, then i would have no problem platooning boni with cogs.

Bottom line, try to sign Uggla and hope he continues his raking or if anything we could trade him for that number 2 we've been looking and a possible replacement at 2B along with West/Volstad I don't really care for acquiring James Shields over Volstad. He's going on 30 in 2011, is going to command more money (4,250,000 mill, if I'm not mistaken) and has seemingly regressed since 2008. Also, he gives up a good amount of HR's (currently 2nd in the MLB) which is exactly one of the issues everyone has bitched about in Volstad (although he's been better this season). Yes, he does have his upside in comparison to Volstad and he could very well turn it around in 2011 but this could also be him going down hill. I'd rather keep Volstad for a bit longer and see if he improves. He's still young and is only in his third season in the bigs. I guess I'm one of the fans holding out hope for him.
September 9, 201015 yr Trade 1B Gaby Sanchez and RHP Leo Nunez to Tampa Bay for 2B/SS Sean Rodriguez and LHP Jake McGee ---> Rays get their 1B to replace Pena/reliever to replace at least 1 of Soriano/Benoit; we get a stud 2B defensively & a definite arm for the future, possibly starting next year. Trade 2B/3B/OF Chris Coghlan to Oakland for RHP Henry Rodriguez ----> Billy Beane's team needs bats, and Coghlan is a solid bat. We get Rodriguez who would fill in in middle relief, and has the stuff and potential to be a closer one day. By stuff, I mean 100+ mph/90 mph slider stuff. Trade RHP Chris Volstad to San Diego for RHP Ryan Webb ---> San Diego gets Volstad, since Garland and Correia are free agents likely to depart this offseason; we get Webb who's probably their 6th best reliever/would be a backend guy on most teams. Leaving: Andrew Miller, Jose Veras, Brian Sanches, Donnie Murphy (I think Murphy can go to the minors? Either way, Helms staying means he's my odd man out) Entering: Justin Duchscherer, Randy Choate, Reed Johnson Starting Catcher - Ronnie Paulino Backup - Brett Hayes/Brad Davis (Spring Training) Starting 1B - Logan Morrison Backup - Chad Tracy, Wes Helms Starting 2B - Sean Rodriguez Backup - Emilio Bonifacio Starting 3B - Dan Uggla Backup - Chad Tracy, Wes Helms, Emilio Bonifacio, Sean Rodriguez Starting SS - Hanley Ramirez Backup - Emilio Bonifacio, Sean Rodriguez Starting OF - Scott Cousins (LF), Cameron Maybin (CF), Mike Stanton (RF) Backups - Emilio Bonifacio, Reed Johnson, Sean Rodriguez Starting Pitchers SP1 - Josh Johnson SP2 - Ricky Nolasco SP3 - Anibal Sanchez SP4 - Alex Sanabia / Justin Duchscherer (Spring Training) SP5 - Sean West / Jake McGee (Spring Training) Bullpen Long Relief / Middle Relief - Burke Badenhop Long Relief / Middle Relief - Alex Sanabia / Justin Duchscherer (whoever loses out on the 4th spot of the rotation) Lefty Specialist - Will Ohman Lefty Specialist - Randy Choate 7th, 8th, 9th - Henry Rodriguez, Ryan Webb, Clay Hensley (don't care for the roles, but those are the 3 guys in the backend of the pen) Starting Lineup vs. RHP: 1. September 9, 201015 yr lol, I don't think any of it is realistic, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend I never played GM before when I was bored. It's creative, I'll give you that.
September 9, 201015 yr Carmona is available from the Indians. Six million next year and two affordable TEAM options for less than Uggla will make. Keep Ohman, Nunez, Hensley, Badenhop, Veras, Sanches and add another lefty and a strikethrower. Dump Miller, West. Give Eli and Koehler a shot at the bigs. Move Uggla. Move Helms.

Can you give some reasons why you want those things to happen?
September 9, 201015 yr Keep the bullpen guys who have been productive. Add the lefty and another bullpen arm Trade Uggla's salary for Carmona's and bullpen help. Marlins have two AA pitchers who were lights out this year. Makes sense to try them out. Miller and West are documented failures. If they weren't high draft picks, nobody would care at all about them. West won't even get into shape or try to learn to field his position. Helms is over the hill and fading fast. If he is on the team next year, his Uncle Wes stature will force the manager to keep putting him out there so he can keep failing.
September 9, 201015 yr I'm going to break a lot of you guys hearts when I do the offseason salary and arbitration guide, but you guys can continue with these wild "signings" for now.

September 9, 201015 yr This team gets rid of Uggla and I lose faith in the Front Office forever. I'll be a fan, but getting rid of UGgla? Might as well let JJ, Stanton Hanley lomo all go cause I doubt with a new stadium team will spend. You get revenue money, put it towards team now. Geez
