dom2613
Marlins Considering Run At Mark DeRosa By Tim Dierkes [April 27 at 12:44pm CST] The Marlins "have begun weighing the merits of making a run at" Giants infielder Mark DeRosa, reports Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. DeRosa could be a solution for the Fish at third base for the remainder of the season, after which his contract is up. DeRosa, 36, is hitting well in a small 20 plate appearance sample this season. With a crowded outfield and no openings at second base or the infield corners, the Giants may consider DeRosa expendable. Not only could they get a useful player back, but they could also clear a portion of DeRosa's $6MM salary. An extra $2-3MM would be helpful to the Giants, who may have limited payroll flexibility in the 2011-12 offseason unless they move some salary. The Marlins considered giving the third base job to top prospect Matt Dominguez out of Spring Training, but instead sent him to Triple-A on March 24th. Eight days later Dominguez fractured his elbow. As a whole, Greg Dobbs, Donnie Murphy, Emilio Bonifacio, and Wes Helms are hitting .286/.353/.416 on the season while manning third base for the Marlins. Would be nice to have a every day guy at 3rd. Admin
I'd be for it, I think he's a good fit.
Butters
I still say when LoMo comes back boni should be our everyday 3rd baseman.
Dr Beinfest
I still say when LoMo comes back boni should be our everyday 3rd baseman. Bonifacio can hardly play 3B. I mean, I'd be somewhat for it but Bonifacio better suites the utility role. In fact, he's awesome for that role. DeRosa wears #7. I wear #7. I approve. mystikol87
I still say when LoMo comes back boni should be our everyday 3rd baseman. You still say it? As in, in all your other posts before your first one? :whistle
Darren Daulton
I still say when LoMo comes back boni should be our everyday 3rd baseman. I agree that he's our best option as our roster stands right now, but he's hardly a great fit at 3B. No power, and as Dr. B noted, his flexibility makes him perfect for the utility role. Also, his speed/bunting ability makes him a great option for the bench. As far as DeRosa goes, his .537 OPS last season is hardly encouraging. Not to mention, $6 million - $2.5 million is still $3.5 million - hefty by Marlins standards, and hardly a bargain for a geezer whose last season was basically a wash. I'd rather sign Garrett Atkins for a fraction of the price.
dim
Pass on DeRosa. There'll be better options available for trade once the deadline approaches. If the Marlins were serious about getting 3B help, they would've signed Eric Chavez when they had the chance.

Entendu
I'd be for it, but I don't want to trade Nunez or anyone like that for him. The Giants don't even need him.

Admin
Why do all of these names keep coming up that aren't much better (if at all) than what the Marlins already have? DeRosa is sh*t and so is Feliz. Those are the two names that have come up this month.

Who does everyone see as better options being available around the trade deadline?

Hammerhead
Good defender, solid career numbers. I wonder what it would take. I'm thinking Ozzie +?
Mephisto
I rather wait to until Baker(we´ll have another reliable lefty bat off the bench) comes back, and go with a three man platoon at 3b.
fanofthefish
I still say when LoMo comes back boni should be our everyday 3rd baseman. Yes the Marlins should be the first MLB team with a left handed third baseman  I saw on MLB network on Monday Gammons proposing the Marlins as a possibility for DeRosa, so I wonder how much of this is actually being kicked around or if this is all speculation? ntorvik
DeRosa will never be as good as he was for the Cubs again. No one utilized him like the Cubs did. He is getting older now and the younger players are passing him like he is standing still. No point in wasting picks/prospects on him. May not be able to keep it up but...
