JJ Rumors

Featured Replies

I'm okay with Reyes, EB, Stanton, Ruggiano next season.

After that the FO has alot of work to do to turn this offense around.

We need to fill the offensive holes with 2 players with power. This 90 feet at a time sh*t is unreliable.

This team reminds of a university/college program. We have good young players for 4 yrs n then they are gone and we go after younger players. It's a cycle that has been going on for a while. I thought it would stop after getting the new ballpark and the way the free agency went this year. They didnt give this team a chance 1/2 season n they broke it up. If the marlins were running the Heat they wouldve broken up the big 3 last season when they started slow.

Think about this y would a free agent or a player within the organization (stanton) want to sign a long term deal eith no trade clause when the team has a reputation of trading you at any point. Y would you want to set up your family here n then relocate to a place u might not want to be at.

Couple of years ago i said I would've love to see what Miggy n Hanley could do together and that didn't happen b/c miggy was fat n lazy n bad for the clubhouse n look how good hes doing in Det. I said the same thing this year with hanley n reyes but we won't get to c it.

Come On, Hanley was here for 6 years and so was Anibal. Teams have changed around Hanley and nothing has happened. Team finally gets some bigger names and still nothing happens and has on one of the worst seasons in a while. When do you stop changing around your "face of your franchise."

Look at the 2013 fa list. Find power that makes sense.

Who says it has to be through FA? You know they're going to push for Hamilton, though.

@joecapMARLINS: Lots of interest in josh Johnson but #Marlins are not shopping him as rhey were Hanley Still doesn't mean J J won't be traded.

Define "makes sense" and what is wrong with trading for a power prospect?

Not alot with power but generally interesting names on the list,

Bourn, Swisher, Napoli, Ross, Melky.

Some might not like Cody but he could fill in untill Yelich is ready. Melky will probably get overpaid. Swisher might get resigned. Bourn would be cool.

If anything, there are alot of interesting starting pitchers on the list even though we need offense.

Rangers will receive Johnson, marlins receive olt and Martin Perez..I'm sure it'll be something like that

Thats the only way trading JJ will work for us. Olt fills the hole at 3B and gives us a power hitter and Perez fills JJ's spot in the rotation. Sign Bourn and hopefully the best FA pitcher available and possibly someone to play LF.

Things ended badly between us and Ross. Don't think that relationship is salvageable.

I don't even know if Olt/Perez is enough to be excited about getting rid of JJ. It's probably the best offer we'll get, but I'd hate to get rid of JJ for that. I'd hate to get rid of JJ period.

Jayson Stark

@jaysonst

An official of one team says the Josh Johnson rumors are exaggerated & he estimates "95 pct" chance Johnson isn't dealt

I'd be ecstatic if we got Olt and Perez from the Rangers.

I'm not that impressed with them. Perez has regressed somewhat and Olt is a bit overhyped.

I would prefer not to move JJ right now. Maybe next July.

Bourn is going to get the most money of anyone on that list other than maybe Melky. I'd love to have him but I think he'll be in high demand.

I don't want Cody Ross. He's having an unsustainable year with Boston and his career is winding to a close. If you spend that kind of money on an outfielder, sign someone younger like Bourn.

A package with Olt and Perez for JJ?

Profar and Olt and we talk. If not we tell Texas to stop trying to cheat us.

I doubt they trade Profar. They're high on him and they should be. Guy's 19 and OPSing .850.

Again, I think the Olt/Martin/Buckel suggestion is great, though.

I think we need to get rid of JJ. I agree hes a top 3 pitcher when healthy but we can't hit. Hes my favorite player on this team (ironic with the Username but that was 3 years ago) but we are in desperate need of a bat. A lot of people say it would be selling low on him but i disagree. Right now texas is so desperate for pitching this is a great opportunity to get a big level prospect back. Then we can fill in the gaps in the rotation in FA. Guys like grienke, Lohse, westbrook, E Jax, anibal would fill holes nicely. I would love a Martin, olt return as we would have a fairly young and cheap rotation of Buerhle, FA, Evoldi, Turner, question mark at 5 with another possible free agent or guy from the minors with fernandez eventually taking the role

He's really not a top 3 pitcher when healthy either, to be fair.

He threw 60 innings in 2011.

Is he not healthy in 2012 or did I miss something? 2012 actually matters a lot more to me than 2010 considering stuff like him losing 2 mph off of his fastball that he's not getting back. Pitchers usually don't just throw harder the more innings they throw/the older they get.

Realistically speaking, you're never going to see 2010 Josh Johnson ever again. He's still a good pitcher of course, but it's rather delusional to still think of him as the "top-3 when healthy" guy.

Does anyone think it would be possible to get Olt and Perez or are we lookin at one or the other

Definitely not one or the other. Perez couldn't be the centerpiece of any deal for JJ.

I would hope so. I think Texas is gonna make a strong push since Cole got locked up and they really want to add another top starter. Plus Beltre is locked up till 2016 blocking Olt so they have to do something with him.

Well they could go after Greinke or Lee who might become available.
