Eovaldi, Alvarez to the DL; Jose Fernandez called up

calling up a guy who hasn't pitched above A-ball is desperate. that's not even debatable.

Yeah, clearly desperate, ignore the fact that 2/5 of the rotation got f***ing injured suddenly. f***ing Yahoo.

I get that fact. But why do we have 2/5 of our rotation suddenly injured? That question is more pertinent to me than calling Jose up...

Also, I think Jose will be fine and will post similar numbers that Kershaw did when he was called up.

I still don't get how this organization suddenly has 2 SP go on the DL the day before opening day. That is what is incompetent.

one of many, many things.

yahoo is stealing my stuff.

May I ask-

When you buy insurance, are you:

A) Buying in case shit happens

or

B) Because shit is gonna happen?

Realistically, between yourself and a few other posters you would swear the sky is falling.

Teams normally wait until the season starts to put people on the DL. They were DL'ed retroactively to the 23rd and 24th.... one week prior. They are giving them up to a month to get their ish together.....

What don't you get?

They're 100% right.

Ofcourse, because you know everything?

At this point, I can't even fake being shocked or surprised by anything this team does.

So you know about "Peanut Butter Night"?

The oh so glorious "Jiffy" sponsored event that coincides with "Bark at the Park" this year.

i really thought the marlins had decided to make slowly the long man and put fernandez in the rotation.

then out of nowhere eovaldi and hernandez who were both looking good and had uneventful spring suddenly have tendinitis.

So now if all of his 150-170 innings come at the major league level that would mean Fernandez can have Super 2 status in which he would be able to go to arbitration after his second year and a free agent after 5 years correct?

Loria pats Fernandez on the shoulder.

Fernandez suffers career ending shoulder injury.

Selig compliments Loria's strong hand of leadership.

get their ish together? they both had just pitched an entire spring and boom the day before the opener injuries are discovered. it's baffling. that's what he's talking about. not that it can't ever happen but good lord...

and Fernandez coming up - do you think they also figured he was ML-ready a few weeks ago when he was, you know, assigned to the minors? Because if they did, then sending him down because he's "blocked" by Kevin Slowey and Wade LeBlanc is pretty silly.

Not desperation at all, he was, really, the best option available. Really doesn't matter what the Fish do, Yahoo will criticize.

If your best option available at the start of the season is a 20 yr old who hasn't pitched in AA yet then it is desperation.

Is anyone else baffled by the fact that both Eovaldi and Alvarez are injured? I hadn't heard any rumours whatsoever all Spring that they weren't 100%.

According to marlins.com, they aren't feeling any pain, just some tightness. If all is true, then because of their young age I see this as more a precautionary move with them with Fernandez being the next best option. I really don't have a problem with that, if all being said is true.

When was LoMo's 60 day DL back dated to? Start of ST maybe?

I feel like it was more out of desperation as well.

They still have SP's left (Villanueva, Koehler, Hand, Turner) that they could've called up instead of a 20 year who hasn't thrown a pitch at a level higher than Class A Ball.

Turner was clearly the wise move...and if Fernandez, why not Yelich?

I think most of us have guessed why it was Fernandez instead of Yelich, but no one really wants to say it out loud.
