December 16, 201312 yr Yes, we're gonna sign a guy who won't even play for us cause he'll be suspended. You're so pessimistic. Your existence sucks.
December 16, 201312 yr Yes, we're gonna sign a guy who won't even play for us cause he'll be suspended. If he's suspended with no real evidence, that's sad. And if he's cleared, I think the Yanks release him... and someone will sign him. Nobody has less to lose than the Marlins. His suspension may be reduced but there is nearly zero chance that it's wiped out completely.

December 16, 201312 yr Are you guys comfortable with the guys we currently have on the roster that can play 3B? I think it's a huge black hole. Dietrich, Dobbs, Lucas and Solano don't get me excited one bit. I think the Marlins should keep the pitching staff together for 2014. The free agents still out there are Reynolds, McGehee, Youkiilis, M.Young, Chavez and Betancourt. Don't think I would give them anything more than a 1-year deal. Will Middlebrooks, Dayan Viciedo or Chase Headley all make sense, but none of them would come too cheaply and I don't think the Marlins should trade any pitching right now. Sean Rodriguez, Cole Gillaspie, Jeff Keppinger, Mike Olt, Rickie Weeks and Jordan Pacheco could be other trade targets. What do you guys think? Dayan Viciedo cannot play 3rd base, at least a major league quality 3rd base
December 16, 201312 yr I am really not high on the idea of dealing a top prospect arm for a young 3b with Moran possibly only a year away. I guess you'd do it hoping he could move to 1b eventually, they'd just better have a plan if they do this. Have some freaking foresight for once. It reminds me of the time when the Marlins traded away a young 3B for a sack of shit and had no other 3B in the system.Matt Dominguez is looking better everyday!

He's just pushing the powers that be far too hard right now.

December 16, 201312 yr None of the options I'm hearing are very good...Olt would be a decent pickup since he could slide to 1st if needed, but I think he'll be too costly to acquire.
December 16, 201312 yr Author Unless Olt comes cheaply, I wouldn't want to trade for him. I think it's like playing with fire.

When you think you can win, you either ante up or go home. If the Marlins didn't trade Adrian Gonzalez for Ugueth Urbina in 2003, they would not have won a championship! Is Dominguez better than any 3B on the Marlins' roster right now, sure he is.....but the Marlins had questions about his bat.

And they had another 1B in the system at the time who was a top prospect. Conversely, Dominguez was the only 3B the team had, and Carlos Lee was an awful player. I'm sure you love him because RBI!!!!!!! But really, he sucked at that point, and everyone here knew it. It was a terrible trade.

December 16, 201312 yr The trade made little sense considering the team just weeks later hit the 'firesale' button, which I doubt they suddenly decided to do.

When the trade happened, many criticized that fact that we traded for Lee, but it's also true that most on here didn't care that we gave up on Dominguez, and felt he would never hit enough to be a MLB starter. Also, the idea was that Hanley was going to be at 3B for a few years. The reaction was sort of meh, Carlos is washed up but at least it didn't cost us anything. So in hindsight it was a terrible trade only because Dominguez had a decent albeit underwhelming season with Astros, and we would love to have that production right now since we have a huge hole there. Now, the fact that they turned around and cleaned house shortly after that just speaks of Loria's volatility and sort of knee jerk nature. I don't think that Beinfest would have made that move knowing they were going to dismantle the team in the off-season.

December 16, 201312 yr Diamondbacks are making Chavez signing a priority. Vince is getting upset right now.
December 16, 201312 yr http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/diamondbacks-acquire-addison-reed.html This burns me as I feel we could have done something like this. It also probably means that Chavez most likely ends up in AZ again.
December 16, 201312 yr We probably could've traded Cishek for Matt Davidson. I would've been ok with that.

They just needed depth in their bullpen and Davidson wasn't going to start for them either way. Martin Prado is their every day 3B.

Either way, I didn't think Chavez would sign here. My complaint is that we could have given something better than what the White Sox just gave up for Davidson who is a top 100 prospect at a position of dire need for us.

I would have tried to get a little more for Cishek because he is young , proven , and controllable, but that's what I was getting at.
December 16, 201312 yr Author Cishek for Davidson would have been an interesting trade. In the end though, it's good for a young team to have a dependable closer. Losing games late weighs hard on a young team.
