Bullpen Help?

Hey guys, we need bullpen help-----

Heath Bell was just DFA, should we take a chance......

Who am I kidding "bleep" him!

Who does everyone think is a capable MR either on this team or who's available that can bridge that gap from starter to 9th inning and Cishek - a Chad Bradford type if you will?

Dyson, Caminero, and Hatcher I think are all capable middle relievers. If he continues to do well in Jax then Wittgren as well.

While I would like to see them get a chance, I don't see how they are current 'capable' big league relievers.

Last I checked Witgren was struggling in Jax and Caminero was getting lit up in NOLA. I think only Dyson right now is a viable option. We also have Conley, and Flynn but we have enough left handed pitchers already. Also, not sure that Hatcher is an upgrade

Carter Capps

Do you truly believe he's the answer? I'm not disagreeing or agreeing, just gauging your opinion on him-

Elaborate and form my opinion for me!

Him throw hard. Him good.

Him throw hard. Him good.

Ugh. You rhetoric good. Make sharp point.

Him not "strong like bull" Olivo. Yes, him throw hard. But him get chance prove him talent. Marmol sit haunches and make crying. Ugh.

Thus endeth prayer to DFA gods.

He's always been touted as a potential future closer. His stuff plays very well in the backend of a bullpen. If he throws strikes on a more consistent basis, he has the stuff to dominate. A fastball that can touch triple digits can't be taught. His slider is a + pitch, as well. As a reliever, that's all you need.

His #'s in the big leagues last year weren't good, but that was mostly due to an inflated total of HR's allowed. His #'s in the minor leagues were rather dominant and more telling of how good his stuff is.

Capps easily has the best stuff in the bullpen -- Cishek included. The difference is that Cishek knows how to pitch while Capps is still more of a thrower with inconsistent command. Capps has a lot of upside though and should get a shot considering that all of our other relievers have the same issues but with lesser stuff. I'd like to see Capps get an opportunity. He's already earned the opportunity with his four innings of work so far considering what the other guys in the pen have done.

There's an article out there about how Hernandez hit a bunch of grounders to Capps at short and had him throw to 1B to figure out what his natural arm-slot was. This supposedly allowed them to fix his delivery. Seems to have worked, so far. If that was really the problem, we got very good value for LoMo.

With your words my opinion is formed, Capps to the 7th and a promotion to the. 8th in a month.

He always struck me as having potential, but I feel like MR/CL are hard to get a feeling of in the minors.

He's got weapons, I hope he learns how to annihilate using them.

Nothing sadder than seeing someone have a gun but they fumble with the safety- that's how I feel with relievers with potential who can't throw strikes.

Spring infield practice aids Miami Marlins reliever Carter Capps with throwing motion

By Clark Spencer

The Marlins had reliever Carter Capps take infield practice during spring training in order to fix his delivery. Now that the hard-throwing pitcher has ironed out the kinks, the Marlins are reaping the benefits.

“He’s got his delivery back, his confidence level is back, and certainly his stuff speaks for itself, Marlins general manager Dan Jennings said of Capps, whom the Marlins obtained from Seattle over the winter for Logan Morrison.

Capps, who started the season at Triple A New Orleans as he continued to work on his delivery, has been lights out in his two outings since being called up to join the bullpen. In four innings of work, he has struck out six and not allowed either a hit or a walk.

On Saturday, he threw two pitches that registered 100 mph and another that hit 101, bringing oohs and ahs from the crowd.

Capps’ pitching mechanics fell out of whack in Seattle last season, and he gave up 12 home runs in just 59 relief innings. The Marlins gave up Morrison for Capps, confident they could correct his flaws.

“Mechanically, he had slowed his tempo a little bit and got a little more [throwing] across his body, Jennings said. “This spring, we were able to go get video. They looked at it and one day, [pitching coach Chuck Hernandez] went out and hit him ground balls at shortstop, let him pick them up and throw across, just to find his natural throwing slot.

When Capps was sent to New Orleans, he continued to work on his delivery with Zephyrs pitching coach Charlie Corbell.

Chuck Hernandez is seemingly a godsend to this team. Possibly Menechino now thst I think of it.

Also, Frisaro says we're showing interest in Kevin Gregg. Shoot me now, might as well keep Marmol in that case. Cubs fans must be wondering why we're so weird.

Are you serious?

Edit - now I think about it, he won't be in the closer's role, so ... why not?
