May 12, 201412 yr Bleh. Better it happen now than in a year or two, when we're legitimately on the cusp of contention. At this point, I treat it as a given that pitchers will get TJ surgery. There's less heartbreak that way. But hey, it could be nothing!
May 12, 201412 yr Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Source says that #Marlins' Fernandez just had second MRI and adds, "This isn't promising." whimper....

May 12, 201412 yr this is what Expos fans probably felt like in '94. we were so close to a World Series
May 12, 201412 yr I doubt we ever see the dominant Jose Fernandez of 2013 to now again. Damn it. Why the fuck not?
May 12, 201412 yr I doubt we ever see the dominant Jose Fernandez of 2013 to now again. Damn it. And why is that?
May 12, 201412 yr Author Why the f*** not? The organization will probably be reluctant in having him throw a bunch of sliders when he comes back. While Jose has a power fastball and guys have comeback from TJ throwing harder in the past, Jose without his slider isn't nearly as dominant.

Sure, pitchers throw less sliders after TJ, but the change isn't so dramatic as to affect his success.
May 12, 201412 yr Not just the slider. All the pitches that make him dominant are the ones that put the most strain on an elbow. I have fears that we just saw Fernandez go from a once in a generation talent to just a good pitcher

May 12, 201412 yr This is a curse from the baseball gods cast upon the people of this board for starting the playoff watch thread too early.
May 12, 201412 yr Wonder what impact this will have on the upcoming draft. Does the FO feel the need to draft a pitcher more so now or do they now shy away from a pitcher given the risk? Esp with Rondon and his pitch counts at NC State and declining velo.
