Bleh.

Better it happen now than in a year or two, when we're legitimately on the cusp of contention. At this point, I treat it as a given that pitchers will get TJ surgery. There's less heartbreak that way.

But hey, it could be nothing!

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal

Source says that #Marlins' Fernandez just had second MRI and adds, "This isn't promising."

Oh no!!!

I doubt we ever see the dominant Jose Fernandez of 2013 to now again. Damn it.

Why the fuck not?

Why the f*** not?

The organization will probably be reluctant in having him throw a bunch of sliders when he comes back. While Jose has a power fastball and guys have comeback from TJ throwing harder in the past, Jose without his slider isn't nearly as dominant.

That's a bit of a stretch. Sure, pitchers throw less sliders after TJ, but the change isn't so dramatic as to affect his success.

I still think he'll be a very good pitcher, but Spike said he probably won't be 2013-now dominant. I think that that's fair.

Wonder what impact this will have on the upcoming draft. Does the FO feel the need to draft a pitcher more so now or do they now shy away from a pitcher given the risk? Esp with Rondon and his pitch counts at NC State and declining velo.

Hopefully they're smart and they draft the best player available.
