I think the Marlins can get Hellickson and probably are holding out for something better which I don't blame them. Im not worried at all. We still have 4 and a half days until deadline passes through. We will atleast get Hellickson, or maybe something better. At what cost? Hopefully not Naylor. As im one of the very few who actually thinks he will be great. I believe Rojas can replace Hech easily, Im for trading Hech to get us the right pitcher....

Shields could be on the block again

Veteran right-hander James Shields, who has already been traded once this season, could be moved again before the Trade Deadline hits, reports MLB.com's Jon Paul Morosi.

 

Sources told Morosi on Wednesday that Shields, who was acquired by the White Sox from the Padres in early June, is currently available via trade.

 

According to Morosi, the White Sox would be responsible for paying Shields $22 million after this season, a reasonable amount for a deal to be able to take place.

 

After a brutal start to his White Sox tenure, Shields has dramatically improved of late, and may have increased his trade value as a result. The 34-year-old allowed at least seven runs in each of his first three starts for Chicago, but since then, he has a 2.11 ERA in seven starts.

I just can't see him being the permanent starter at 2B. Dietrich has been too good for Mattingly to just supplant him like that.

You can't replace speed. And the way DD is swinging the bat lately, he needs a break.

It may be the only way as it appears most if not all teams don't like what Loria is willing to trade.  And do we want the MLB squad depleted to get a SP?  Who on the squad as you willing to see go AND who any team really wants?

Agree. We cannot give up our top talent for guys that put up the same numbers as our starting pitchers. Once Dee and Bour are back, I  think we have the best 1-8 line-up of all the contending NL teams...to go along with a top 3 bullpen and the best starting pitcher in baseball (with kershaw on the shelf). We are honestly in pretty good position...its just frustrating having our supposed #2 be our 6th or 7th best pitcher right now. Donny should put the fear of death in our 3-5 pitchers and see where we go. After all, they've been pitching their asses off since they realized they may be riding a bus the rest of the year.

 

 

I like what Conley is bringing to the table to help anchor our staff lead by Jose Fernandez, but if anything we need to add 1 more starter who can further help anchor this staff.

I still maintain we could and should have added Bud Norris with Paddack as the key piece and kept Ellington up. From there, we could have tried to move smaller pieces for a reliever. But, I get that we have Rodney next year, which gives us options. Just hope we can land a starter. Ervin Santana's name is no longer pooping up. Too bad. He'd be perfect and gettable.

Yeah. He'd probably be our second-best starter, or at least third-best behind Conley. If he comes at an affordable price, I'd do it. Maybe the White Sox can even pay part of his salary.
