Jose Fernandez dies in boating accident

Featured Replies

I assume the center console 32 footer is the boat in question, maybe they were coming back from a fishing trip, im still wondering who was at the controls

No word from police yet...other than it was not Jose

It doesn't matter who was at the controls. Doesn't change a damn thing.

Man this is gonna be rough for a lot of teams and players today too. Even those who didn't know him personally have to be affected today.

the lance mccullers bit killed me

Not that injuries, fire sales, ped suspensions etc are anywhere as important as this but man us Marlins fans really do get kicked and stomped in the heart quite a bit.

This is the worst.

I'm guessing Hill and Samson

The entire team and coaches are there according to Spencer

It's really an awful way to end a pretty disappointing season. This team is in a lot of trouble now. I think they were probably counting on trading Jose for a big haul within the next year.

This is true. A future Jose Fernandez trade was what the front office was hoping would fix their broken farm system.

As I said before, we'll discuss in length at some point the giant effects this has on the franchise, and they are huge. And I don't expect people not to talk about it now, because as fans the future of the team is always on our minds.

But for me at least, this is about somebody who is just a year older than myself dying. I don't feel I've had a chance to experience the world even a tiny bit as much as I expect to me in my lifetime. If I were to die today, I'd be disappointed not being able to know what will happen for the next fifty, sixty years. It's an injustice for somebody to go at 24 years old. It's senseless, and there were a lot of memories and great moments that we and everyone in the world will not be able to experience because of this.

I'm a grown man and have had on and off tears for the past 2 hours over a guy I never once met. Getting emotionally invested in sports teams can be a weird thing.

Omg I love that they're all there. Amazing image

I've been trying to hold it together all morning, but that was the image that made me finally break down in tears.

No kidding, its a reminder of how life can end in an instant.

Very true, it hits home when its someone you know. Maybe not personally ,but when you watch and follow someone for four years and root on , you kinda get attached to that person in a certain way.

Speed kills, slow down out there people. Stay safe
