Jose Fernandez dies in boating accident

Featured Replies

Honestly, I say nothing can be confirmed until the autopsy results ... Just because people say something doesn't make it true. I really hope it isn't ...

Le Batard isnt one to make something like that up. Quote pretty much covers it "If drinking was involved, it doesn't make it any less tragic, but it does make it more reckless.""

The second sentence in this quote from one of the posted articles is fucking abhorrent and the writers and editors should be ashamed.

The two other men were identified Monday as Emilio Macias, 27, and Eduardo Rivero, 25. Neither was a professional athlete.

As I mentioned earlier, I think it was inevitable that alcohol would be involved.

However while it would be easy to go down the drink drive (albeit a boat) route for discussing irresponsibility, I'm choosing not to. If Jose did like drinking and had other off-field behavioural issues, he definately didn't bring them to work in the way guys like Johnny Manziel have. He was always an absolute professional on game days and the life of the team and that is how he should be remembered.

Not going to lie. This would change how I feel.

ehhh not me. The selfishness/recklessness of what was clearly a selfish/reckless situation would certainly kick up a notch. It's still Jose though regardless.

I honestly can't even think of how they can determine who was driving..  It seems the boat was owned by Jose but shared among friends so anybody could have been behind the wheel.  Like I said in my previous posts, some new information will be slowly coming out and we need to take it with a grain of salt, but when it comes to Le Batard info, its always pretty legit, especially down here in Miami.

Maybe if it were just him. But two others died. If Jose was driving, it changes how I feel.

I know what you're getting at however they made the choice of getting on the boat knowing they had all been drinking (if recent reports are to be believed).

I think they should be able to analyze where the bodies were found in relation to where the boat was found to have a rough idea of who was sitting/standing in what part of the boat. It won't be precise enough to determine who was driving if the other two victims were standing nearby, but if one person was driving and the other two were on another part of the boat, that should be able to be determined by forensic investigators.

I have to believe he was the captain that night, being that he owned the boat. As a boat owner, I know for sure that my husband, being the captain of the vessel, would NEVER allow someone else to drive it recklessly. Not a chance.

Yeah, from the get go kinda knew alcohol was involved somehow , sat night. leaves dockside party, put 2 and 2 together.

If it is something bad, please the media of a South Florida just bury it. Call in an accident and don't make the cut deeper. His family and South Florida have already gone through a lot, don't paint this picture he was troubled.

While I completely understand where you're coming from, I'm sure the families of the other two victims would like to know what happened. Now, that doesn't mean it has to become public information, but if they find out, chances are, everyone will find out.

It is responsible to let the public know, no matter what. There may be a young man or woman out there who will think twice as a result of knowing what happened. It could actually save a future life.

This is a good point, as well.
