Yoenis Cespedes

It would be Ichiro starting everyday (most days) if Ozuna gets traded for pitching and we don't sign a free agent OF. Dietrich is also a trade piece to acquire starting pitching.

The Ozuna talk in based on the fact he's the teams most valuable available trade piece, the team now desperately needs starting pitching, and they won't spend to pay for the top free agent pitchers. It is the most realistic option to improve the rotation.

I hope "they" don't spend much on the "top" free agent pitchers

I like the idea of signing Cespedes because I think he's the bat the Marlins need, but it's kind of pointless if the rotation is total shit.

Yeah but only way they'd sign him if is if they trade an OF for a SP (Ozuna) so that could help the rotation a little. They need more than 1 SP but it is a start.

They need like 3 new SPs

Yep. Only 2 guys I think should be guaranteed rotation spots next year are Chen and Conley. I'm sure Koehler will get one but he shouldn't be guaranteed.

At least three.

What came first chicken or the egg scenario... do they only sign Cespedes after trading Ozuna for an SP or do they sign cespedes and then trade for an SP? Normally it might not matter but it feels like one is strongly dependant on the other so I'm curious.

You have to sign Cespedes first. Otherwise, you'll be sunk.

they're not signing cespedes lolz

Ozuna > DD

Ozuna was killing LHP the first half, and still did an well above average job even after his second half tailed off. DD just can't hit LHP. His OBP was also inflated due to HBP.

Ozuna adds more value especially when you switch him to a corner outfield spot. I would love Cespedes but he is probably going to seek 5 year / $125 million and he is already 32 years old.

If the marlins don't spend on people like Céspedes and/or chapman and acquire two or more SP whether by trade over overpaying for hill or hellickson, their best bet is to just blow up the team and rebuild. If they have any desire of trying to compete with this core. They have to make these moves.

If they are not signing at least three players of Chapman,Hellickson,Hill and Cespedes then they are absolutely rebuilding.

we should not be rebuilding goddamit #fuckingcheapownerplusfuckedupfrontoffice

If things go south next season they should certainly be looking towards retooling. I wouldn't be saying fire sale but there should be a greater emphasis on building and preserving the farm system.

Now is a good time to try for an NL playoff spot because the second wild card adds some opportunity that we otherwise wouldn't have (we were in it until the last week and a half this season despite a ton of issues). 2017 should certainly be the last season that the core team is kept together. After that, any player that isn't considered a long term player (aka Stanton, Gordon, Realmuto, Yelich) should be made available in an effort to regain for a long term future run.

If by some miracle Koehler is our 5th starter I would be totally happy with that.

Every Marlins fan should be elated for that hypothetical.

The team is already in Miami, we can't go much further south. Do you want the Puerto Rico Marlins?

Cespedes, Bautista and McGwire. Go heavy on bats and figure out where they play. Trade ozuna for a SP, maybe look for bullpen arms to shut down the 6-9th inning the way the Cubs did. If your can't spend 20m on a SP spend it in 3-4 MR

La Havana Marlins.

Both countries come together and build a marlins park replica and name it Jose Field
