Edwin Encarnacion

Lol at Oakland.

Billy Beane is the most overrated front office executive in the history of professional sports. He's teflon, though. He literally does the same thing the Marlins do (without the two World Series titles) and gets a pass for it because "Moneyball."

I'd say Billy Beane is worse the last few seasons. We've at least pretended to contend the last three years. Oakland is not even trying at this point.

Admin,is it possible that Loria and Hill would really surprised us in this winter by landing Edwin Encarnacion ? I really hope so.

They wouldn't be really surprising us if we knew that so since we don't think so... maybe?

I think if the Marlins were interested, you would have heard some rumors by now. I bet they have zero interest because they don't want to lose the draft pick.

Hey, maybe in some super off-chance parallel universe fuck-up, Encarnacion is still a free agent come the draft, and then we sign him for 3 years.

Maybe they think Bour was too good to been replaced.

Yea,we have a good lineup, but everyone knows it's only good at batting average and very bad at run scored and extra base hits,so how could we expect a significant improve on those two categories with the same lineup !? if we really couldn't improve our rotation significant than why not just try to improve our offense instead, obviously the power bats group was much better than the power arms group in this year's off-season.

Mlb.com did a piece wondering where EE could go and considering his options have dwindled it kinda opened up the idea to other potential landing spots... here's the bit on the Marlins, basically saying exactly what we've said on here so at least someone else is agreeing with us...

Marlins. They're going to stick with Justin Bour, who has shown good power when healthy, but what fun is this discussion without some wacky speculation? The Marlins have made about an $80 million push for Jansen that came up empty, and they pivoted toward investing a total of $28 million over two years to Brad Ziegler and Junichi Tazawa. Put those "savings" toward a backloaded Edwin offer, and you've got one of the NL's more dynamic offenses.

Really see no reason not to do this. I know they're worried about the draft pick, but they don't have the funds to keep this team together while they wait to see if that draft pick ever even pans out (which is extremely unlikely given their recent draft disasters.)  I mean they haven't hit on a first overall pick since Jose back in '11.

That draft pick as value to new ownership. Loria isn't going to reduce his sale price by even the value of that draft pick.

Yeah I get you, but that draft happens before any change in ownership, so it'll still be our scouting department and executives doing the valuation so we know that's more than likely going to be trash.  Plus, as all of us here in the city know, it's not a draft pick that's gonna bring success to the new ownership, it's getting people to actually get excited about this organization.  The best thing Loria can do to get interested buyers at the optimal price, is go all out to try to make this a LEGITIMATE playoff team; Even if he has to lose 20-40 mil of his own money to do it. Consider it an investment.

One thing about Edwin is that even though he wouldn't fix our starting pitching problems, he'd make our offense look so good that it'll kinda fool people into thinking we have a chance next year.

The Marlins FO can't get you a good player like that, but maybe instead they'll go and get Juan Encarnacion out of retirement as a broadcaster to make you feel better about it.

Every time I see a new post in this thread my hopes are raised that there is a blurb about there being mutual interest from a reliable source.  however, my hopes are always quickly dashed.

Whatever EE's aging curve or salary, etc, I don't want to lose 1st round pick. NEVER.

In my thought, the first round pick was never a guarantee, right ?

The Marlins are the real shrug emoji here, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. They could use a better first baseman, but Encarnacion may not be a great fit. He would be forced to play the field each day, and he might not be enough to turn the team into contenders. With that said, the Marlins occasionally throw weird contracts at elite players. They were reportedly willing to give Kenley Jansen $80 million before he re-signed with the Dodgers, so you never know. Maybe they’ll do the same with Encarnacion, even though he doesn’t really improve their outlook much.

Because the Marlins have shown a propensity to give a flying fuck about draft picks?
