December 16, 20178 yr Also, why is it assumed Riddle gets in there over Rojas? They’re both light hitting glove guys, but I actually prefer Rojas style of play. Am I missing something on Riddle?
December 16, 20178 yr As for the original topic of this thread the way this off-season is going I honestly think its way too early to accurately guess this. Even though it's been about shipping players away there's still plenty more to acquire and I think several roster guys who will make the team haven't even been acquired yet. This team is gonna have a solid chunk of guys that are signed jan-march. Right now the plan has been about slashing payroll. The next step will be about actually assembling the 2018 roster. Really believe they would spend some money for some veteran players !?
December 16, 20178 yr Really believe they would spend some money for some veteran players !? For a low salary, guys looking to get on a mlb roster and unable to get jobs or significant playing elsewhere.
December 16, 20178 yr For a low salary, guys looking to get on a mlb roster and unable to get jobs or significant playing elsewhere. resource recycling
December 16, 20178 yr For a low salary, guys looking to get on a mlb roster and unable to get jobs or significant playing elsewhere. and to think, I was getting all negative about the upcoming season. Now there is hope.
December 16, 20178 yr Author Also, why is it assumed Riddle gets in there over Rojas? They’re both light hitting glove guys, but I actually prefer Rojas style of play. Am I missing something on Riddle? Riddle is younger and will be more controllable and has a little more pop. Plus Rojas value is his versatility. We know what Rojas brings but we need to find out exactly what Riddle brings. Either way, in the end they both might be exactly the same player.

Riddle brings you a not starting quality major league SS. Don't need another full season to tell you that. Or even half a season.
December 16, 20178 yr Author Riddle brings you a not starting quality major league SS. Don't need another full season to tell you that. Or even half a season. I don't know what he brings and neither do you for certain. You are most likely correct but what do we really have to lose by starting him there? He isn't blocking anyone. Unless we acquire a SS prospect in a deal which is unlikely. We can always put Rojas out there if he is worse than expected.

December 16, 20178 yr he isnt blocking anything, but to think you are going to 'learn' something you dont already know is a bit much. Yeah I agree, at least Miguel Rojas has spent the last few years (other than 2016 where he was adjusting to being a regular) trending upward. He was worth two wins last year in limited action so I’m all for giving him the opportunity to move around the diamond but pretty much be in there daily. He’s earned that more than Riddle has.
December 16, 20178 yr he isnt blocking anything, but to think you are going to 'learn' something you dont already know is a bit much. Riddle is a perfect inexpensive decent option to play there while we are terrible before moving into a more productive option down the road
December 16, 20178 yr Really believe they would spend some money for some veteran players !? Cheap guys to fill the roster. Yes. I never said they'd be superstars.
December 17, 20178 yr Cheap guys to fill the roster. Yes. I never said they'd be superstars. Is this guy cheap enough? he has a baseball hat already so that's that
December 17, 20178 yr CF Magpie Sierra C JT Realmuto LF Christian Yelich 1B Justin Bour RF Braxton Lee 3B Martin Prado 2B Starlin Castro SS JT Riddle P Jose Urena That's already a bad lineup assuming Yelich, Castro, Bour, and Prado are still around. It's going to be a long five seasons, guys. Braxton Lee has even less power than Sierra That Outfield would hit 24 HRs if Yelich can hit 21 HRs
December 17, 20178 yr Author Braxton Lee has even less power than Sierra That Outfield would hit 24 HRs if Yelich can hit 21 HRs Yeah, Braxton Lee is a top of the order bat. Well, if he pans out.
December 17, 20178 yr L - Sierra - RF R - Prado - 3B L - Yelich - CF R - Realmuto - C L - Bour - 1B R - Castro - 2B L - Dietrich - LF R - Rojas - SS
December 18, 20178 yr Why he keeps saying this rebuilding team needs a 20~25 HRs OF after they just get rid of two !?
December 18, 20178 yr Outfield will be: sierra, cooper, and lee infield: dietrich, riddle, Rojas, and bour catcher: JT lineup: sierra Jt Lee bour Dietrich Cooper rojas riddle
December 18, 20178 yr Outfield will be: sierra, cooper, and lee infield: dietrich, riddle, Rojas, and bour catcher: JT lineup: sierra Jt Lee bour Dietrich Cooper rojas riddle Who do you think the Marlins get in a Yelich trade? If they trade him, I think it makes too much sense to get back a SS, OF, SP in the trade.
December 19, 20178 yr I would assume: C- Realmuto (who they should sign for 5 years) 1B - Cheap free agent 1B/3B type 2B - Rojas SS - Riddle 3B - Anderson LF - Dietrich CF - Yelich RF - Cheap free agent B - Telis/Wallach, Cooper, Free agent cheap veteran backup 2B/SS, Cheap veteran 4th OF who can play CF Sierra gets called up in late May when his service time clock rolls over and takes over RF for the time being until Dietrich is moved at the deadline and Yelich goes to left, Sierra CF. Then trade out Dietrich/Rojas/veterans for anything you can get in July, and call up anyone doing anything in the minors and have a wild August and September evaluation period of the lesser prospects. Maybe they get lucky with someone like Lee, Dean, Nola, Twine, etc. For the record, trade Castro and Bour now for more young pitching ready in 1.5 years tops, Prado for anything to move salary.
December 19, 20178 yr I think that, surprisingly, the new ownership doesn’t want to be historically bad. Bad and embarrassing to watch: ok. But not historically bad. That’s why they may think Castro can bounce back and have a 3 or 4 WAR year. i mean his best year ever was 3.1 WAR in 2012 so 3 or 4 extremely unlikely

A low key great Justin Twine reference in this post.
December 20, 20178 yr Just can't wait for the beginning of the new minor league season, milb games would be much more attractive than the mlb games in the next 2~3 years.
