I might jsut have to root on the hometown Astros again this year, since they actually appear to trying to win, unlike the Cardinals in St. Louis as of 31 January 2018. (now if we sign someone like a Hosmer/Holland/Moose/Arrieta, then I'll change my tune. We really need at least 2 of them, tbh.)

Where we are now means we're already closer to the next contending Marlins team than we would have been without trading those guys away. I would have taken it.

If these rebuilds are all they are cracked up to be, when are we going to be better than those two teams since they have a head start rebuilding ?

I really think second place in the NL East this year, will get you in the wild card hunt. Those teams in the NL West are going to be beating each other up all season now that the Giants have added.

I can come up with 2 answers. Pray their rebuilds don't work as well as ours and sooner than later we're better than them (unlikely I know) or there comes a point when all 3 of us are just straight up good and we all have a chance to win the division and it'd be a few dogfight seasons for the NL East (from the standpoint of MLB this is the one they'd hope for, more competition). We shall have to wait and see.
February 3, 20188 yr Yes maybe it will this year but the 2017 marlins wouldn’t come in second place this year or compete for the wild card. Yep. Unless the new owners were willing to add some pitching in a buyers market...then i would have loved our chances. it's funny, the Mets looked like they were tearing things down at the trading deadline and now they see the opportunity and are adding. Licking their chops to have 50 games with the Phillies,Braves and Marlins.
February 4, 20188 yr Having a "backup" team is silly. I'll probably watch a lot of Yankees games for obvious reasons, but they won't be "my" team. I'll also watch Braves games because I get them on TV. But I'll still watch the Marlins day in and day out.
