New Logo Coming

Featured Replies

Oh I know the account is not credible, doesn't mean the source of the logo isnt credible.

I ask myself why of all reporters and places, the one place to get leaked that by a source is some random IG account though. I am very skeptical of that one.

I remember when the black marlins hat picture  was leaked and Lebatard asked Samson if this was the new logo and he said NO and No.

I'm not falling for that again, looks fake and fugly but who knows

It looks like one of those bad concepts we spoke about earlier and doesn't seem traditional enough to be what Jeter would want. It's along the same vein as the Loria stuff and we're positive that that's exactly what Jeter is trying to get away from.

Can anyone find that old pic of the concepts considered by Loria? This one reminds me of one of them, but maybe my memory is bad.

I’d like to see a better pic, but I could dig it. Might look really good on a black hat. Almost looks blue and purplish on the outline. Like it better than What we have now

A lot better then the current logo but still no match for the original Marlins logo..

Looks like Miami Vice colors to me.

They should hire the California company that came up with Inter Miami CF logo.

@rmc523 any chance you could do mock-ups of that logo on jerseys and hats? You seem skilled at this kind of thing and I'd be interested in seeing it.

I'm guessing they'd go with a blue hat and a black brim as the primary hat. A blue alternate seems likely to me.

Google Image search “Marlins Concept” and you’ll see an array of terrible designs that online logo people have put out there over the years.  They’re all terrible.  This mark looks like it would fit right in with that bunch.

A few observations:

- As mentioned earlier, the 2012 design was chosen from a group of 7-8 designs.  It could be that this logo is also one of several options on the table

- It looks like a secondary logo.  A sleeve patch perhaps.  I can’t see this on a hat.  The only hat color options are black or blue.  Sure you could do a black hat logo on black hat like they did for many years up to 2012, but the difference is that logo’s Marlin wasn’t so predominantly black.  This would be too much black in the logo to place on a black hat.  The blue hat option would seem off the table as well because the double outline on the M includes blue, so putting that against a blue hat would wash it out.

- I don’t like the color scheme.  What do they say in the Chris Creamer message board world?  Black for black’s sake (BFBS)?  It’s Aston Villa/West Ham/Burnley combined with a BFBS approach.  That’s weak.

-One of the Dimelo Miami questions was “Do you want a Marlins on the hat logo?”  Canvassing social media, I got the feeling that most people answered yes to that question.  This would fit that bill and it does draw a compromise between the lifelike look of the original marlin, and the complete abstract look of the current marlin.

- After seeing this, I kind of think that the hat logo should just be an M.  Trying to incorporate too much graphic design into the logo now feels like a risky proposition and we could end up with some trash from a google image search.

Baseball design can be really good if you make it really simple. The other three major sports have more to worry about.  Football teams need a helmet decal, a font, and colors.  Hockey teams need a sweater logo, a sleeve logo, colors, and font.  In basketball the primary logo sits on the middle of the court and is very prominent.  Primary logos in baseball have been on the decline.  Teams use their hat logo as the primary now (which stinks because there were some terrific primary logos in the 70s and 80s).  So for the Marlins new design they really just need to 1) nail their color scheme and 2) pick a halfway decent font.  If they get too cute with color combinations, outlines with drop shadows, and all the bullcrap you see in modern designs, it will be a giant disappointment.  It seems completely insane to not go back to the original color scheme.  Even in the muted teal 2003-2011  scheme (which was not my favorite).  All this talk about giving people what they want you would think that they would at least use those colors and implement them in a way that is different and modern.  I get not using the original Marlin on an M.  There is something about that logo along with an M that doesn’t work the way that it worked with the F.  Every team has a simple hat logo, and simplicity in hat logos is really all you need.

For what its worth, the Heat did the Vice look well. It is very popular with fans. I really would need to see this look on the jerseys and hats to say what I think. Very difficult to judge a logo flat on its own.

I never really thought they'd go back to teal (just hoped) but I expected them to use the current blue in the same way the teal was used.
