April 3, 20213 yr Yes, we're just 0-2 in a 162 game season, but still have a lot to say. It's 1-1 if we have a serviceable closer like the one the Rays have. If we think it's acceptable to lose to a team like the Rays then we're really not ready to compete. If Ng gets 10M to spend on a real closer but fails to get the job done then blame her, but I think it's on Sherman for not giving her the resources. Don't blame Bass for trying to close a game even he knows he's not a closer. A player would just try to do everything his boss wants him to do to get paid, Bass just won't tell Ng not to sign him as a closer, it's just up to Ng and Mattingly to choose who to close. Culture of losing still exists !? why always Marlins to lose the one run game !? why always Marlins to blown saves !? Miami Marlins just not deserved to win no matter what they do !? Really, it would be a different world if we got this beautiful come back WIN, the frustration would be really HUGE !!!
April 3, 20213 yr 100% Bass would got another chance to close, it's just not allowed for manager to change the closer after only one outing and one blown save. maybe he would have the most saves in this season and it's his only one BS…
April 3, 20213 yr A closer that got the job done, it's not too much to pay him $10MM a year. A closer that can't got the job done, it's still too high to pay him $2MM a year.
April 3, 20213 yr We needed to have a competition for the closer role in spring training. I don't understand why Bass was handed the job the day he signed. He's a decent enough reliever, but he's not a guy who is clearly, obviously, unquestionably the closer. He's the definition of average: good enough to pitch in some important situations, but now we'll have to see him in the ninth for a while because "he's our guy" and "we signed him to close because he's done it before" and other such bullshit.
April 3, 20213 yr Blew his first save opportunity, I'm willing to give him more of a leash than that.
April 3, 20213 yr Bass had a good ST. First game jitters. Way too early to write him off. (in before he gets 25 + SVs)

That’s assuming we stay healthy. That would project us to be a post season team but not if the bullpen can’t man up, not in our division. 10-15 ranked offense!? Respectfully...is this based on anything?

It just looked like the batters figured him out pretty quickly and he text book unraveled...it felt like one could call the shots. We should see if the Rays would be willing to lend us some players... Edited April 3, 20213 yr by Major-Minor

April 3, 20213 yr 17 minutes ago, Entendu said: Maybe 10-15 in the NL, and the lower end of that range is generous Yes. I haven't see an offensive stat higher than 17 in any league ranking. People want to say Kintzler was lucky last year...well what about this offense? The fish were in the top ten in babip...and ranked near the bottom in the bottom half in obp, avg, slug, and pretty much every measurable offensive stat. These last two games are only two games...but they exposed the two GLARING problems that weren't really addressed this offseason...a leaky bullpen and anemic offense.

Against the defending AL champs. If it still looks this bad over the next week and a half at least, then yeah it's a real issue.
April 3, 20213 yr I'm not saying this team is a WS contender, before anyone jumps on that. But, the 2003 Marlins opened 0-2 and one of the games wasn't even close. The point is, it is too early to know what this team is. We are talking about 2 games out of 162 and against one of the best teams in MLB.

April 3, 20213 yr I will say that ball coming off Jazz's bat has that special "sound" to it though. Damn he was fun to watch these first two games. Here's hoping to a fantastic season from him!
April 3, 20213 yr 1. Jazz is legit 2. Pablo out after 5 innings was idiotic. 3. The Marlin bullpen is trash. 4. This Marlins still have things to fix offensively. 5. The Marlins pen being an issue doesnt matter if Isan is 2nd baseman.

The best swings on the team so far, and it hasn’t been close.
