John Baker
I like what he's done. I see no reason why he should slow down ("come back to Earth). What if he keeps going 1-3 and 1-2 with one walk each game? That would be terrific.

Who do you think our top 3 starters will be if we make the playoffs?
I think we'll definitely see Olsen in the post-season rotation. I don't think a sensible person would throw out 3 righties. You wanna keep the opposition off balance, not letting them get into a rhythm. It doesn't mean that Olsen is one of our 3 best pitchers, though; that's not what I'm saying.

Jacobs to the Giants?
It would be kind of ironic to see Jacobs go, seeing how he stepped up early in the season as the vocal leader defending this team.

Lenny - Does he forget where he came from?
i feel we have the best announcers in the game and why i say that is because they dont rag on anyone or they dont talk bad about players and i love how they love the marlins there fun! Couldn't have said it better

Who will be the ace of our staff in 5 years?
Uggla to the Red Sox? They have that annoying kid they love so much up there, who happens to be pretty good.
-
Did everyone forget?
Allowing almost 2 baserunners per inning isn't desirable. How many more rehab starts does he have? I don't feel he's ready ...

Great article on Marlins.com about Uggla last night
I love his attitude I love your signature :thumbup

Poor Dan
You take Uggla's worst possible outlook on how he would perform, multiply it by 3, and you have his performance last night. I felt so sorry for him. Small-market guys are supposed to go out there and impress big-market people with what you can do, make a name for yourself. Uggla's performance justified the media's ignorance of all things Marlins. This is not the way I wanted things to go. But who cares. We're 1.5 games outta first, and we have a good solid team. We're gonna do this! GO FISH

Official 2008 Home Run Derby Thread
Can anyone post the scores, for whoever has gone?
-
Who should recieve a long-term contract?
I'd say that Uggla has earned a reasonable 5 year contract.

Miller's Clearly Not Ready
I wonder how this will affect Miller psychologically, considering how he's the only one on the rotation that's struggling ... Maybe he feels left out ...

HEAT Offseason Thread
My favorite offseason highlights: 1. Mario Chalmers - I love his defense and his three-point shooting, not to mention his poise. History has shown that, in the assembly of a championship team, you don't need a superstar point guard. Jason Kidd hasn't done it. Steve Nash hasn't done it. John Stockton didn't do it. And these guys are probably all top 5 point guards EVER. Recent teams have done it with guards like Rajon Rondo (drafted 21 overall) and Tony Parker (28). 2. Erik Spoelstra - I love the youth he brings to this team, and I love the fact he was raised in the family. More so, I like how he will maintain a defensive philosophy. 3. James Jones - Welcome back home. And I don't just give him that welcome because he's from here, I give it to him for the valuable player that he is. I think this is gonna work out great for the Heat. Very excited for the upcoming season! No Michael Beasley? It's not that I don't like Beasley; what troubles me is his role with the team. He's a go-to guy, but I thought we had one already in DW. I think people make too much of a big deal out of his rebounding ability; I would rather he be a mediocre rebounder but at least be better on defense than what he is. Part of me sort of hopes that, if we do keep both Haslem and Marion, that we bring Beasley off the bench, to give him extra motivation to improve and to prove me wrong about him being two-dimensional on the court. Wasn't Shaq a "go-to guy" as well? Beasley is only 19, his defense can improve. Hey man, I hope you're right and that his defense does improve. But I've noticed that it's hard to learn to be a good defender at this stage of the game. Usually, players bring that with them from college and high school. But I have a lot of confidence in this team's coaching staff, so I think we will see him improve.

John Baker is the answer?
Yeah, I think we should all reserve judgement on this guy. Sample size is too small to tell how good he will be here. I agree that he does have more of a catcher demeanor (whatever that is), but I really could care less. Look at Vlad Guerrero; on the topic of demeanor, the guy looks like a mess at the plate, yet you can't argue with his numbers. had Rabelo continued to produce nicely, we would never have noticed his demeanor. Bottom line, I like many liked what I saw, but let's be patient. All we know is that Baker played an important part in yesterday's win.

We are so damn lucky.
We have a 4.3 Pythagorean Over/ Under (2nd in MLB), meaning we've won about 4 more games than what we should have going by the runs scored/ runs allowed formula. I love stats, but I also love how this team defies them. It gives a lot of perspective. GO FISH!

Treanor
I hope we don't trade for a catcher.
-
Blame Olsen and the Pen
Fredi played way too conventional tonight. Why couldn't Doug go out there for three more outs? Why does Gregg HAVE to close? I understand that Fredi wanted to give Gregg a shot to redeem himself, but Jesus Christ lad. How much more inefficient can you be with your bullpen goddamit!
-
Offers for Pudge
The Marlins won't be adding a catcher. Sometimes we throw around trades and signing ideas like this is fantasy baseball. We're dealing with people here, not strictly numbers. I feel the main reason why they won't add a catcher is because they don't want to disrupt the relationship Treanor has developed with the pitchers.

Post Game 7/1
and again fredi brings in nelson with runners on and of course they score.....i cant stand his idiocy anymore....he doesnt take note of thigs like that and only plays by the guys he likes before today, Nelson had inherited 16 baserunners and he stranded 12 of them. That means only 25% of his inherited base runners score. That's pretty good. not sure what you're talking about there Sounds about right, but where did you get that from?

6-27 Post game
The news about Tommy reached me too late. Had I known before, I might have actually stayed home to watch the game. That's how amusing I find Samson. Was he on fire tonight?

6-27 Post game
I admit that I was cringing when I saw Nolasco batting in the bottom of the seventh having already gone over 100 pitches. I mean, last time I checked dude was 2nd in the league in PAP. I had a terrific time at the game. Nice to get the win, but I really feel that Fredi should consider giving Ricky his next start off. He's still young, and going over the 100 mark has consistently harmed pitchers eventually.
