Man up and get in Hanley face, i dont care how much money his making. If his going to jog after a ball and let runs score and a runner get to 3rd and not run full speed up the line when he his a grounder to SS get him out of the GAME!

freddi definatley did the right thing..it's more hanleys head than it is his foot..

if hanley was hurting he has an obligation to tell his manager..otherwise he needs to sprint after that ball..

hanley is an allstar and we love him...but he isn't bigger than this team.

we won 2 world titles before we heard of hanley..

we're fortunate to have him but he needs to give 100% of himself..

any other manager would have doen the same thing...

I was so disgusted watching the whole pop fly incident I had to turn the game off. And now Hanley's making it worse today with his disrespectful Fredi comments. I thought Hanley wanted to take this team to the playoffs? Uh, as the team's best and highest-paid player, you have to give 110 percent EVERY GAME. Every game is important in late September. You see guys like Maybin fighting to stay in the big leagues (with Stanton waiting in the wings) and going all out to make plays. I agree with the comment earlier that Uggla is a better leader because he is always a max-effort guy.

If you want to be traded, just come out and say it like Manny! I'm about to go toss my three-year-old Ramirez jersey because he's acting like a three-year old.

#Marlins mgr fredi gonzalez says hanley won't return to lineup until he "works out issues"/apologize to teammates

A forced apology means nothing. Hanley was wrong for dogging it but Fredi and management deserve blame for allowing lackadaisical effort by the overall team the past few seasons.

Ok, I know everyone dogs Fredi for some of his questionable decisions but I don't think anyone could say he's not right on this one. This is so incredibly unfortunate. Nothing will come out good from this. I hope it doesn't ruin the season. Wow, could you imagine JJ or Uggla or any other "leader" on the team acting like this? Someone should tell Hanley this...you are not untouchable...think, Cabrera, Beckett, Burnett, Lowell. Get a life.

Gotta love it when this is the kind of national attention we get.

Hanley needs to think about what he's saying and how it makes him look

This is where the Marlins need a veteran other than a Wes Helms on the team. Someone that tells him most people respect hard work over here instead "swag".

Jeter's, Ripken's, They are the legends in this league.

Hanley better really change if he ever expects to play in New York or Boston. Does he realize what would happen if he dogged it like that there.

I'm officially scared. I didn't think it was going to blow up like this.

I agree. Does anyone know what our minor league system looks like for SS?

very bad news after Hanley ripped Fredi.

Marlins manager benches Hanley Ramirez indefinitely

Gonzalez says that until All-Star shortstop apologizes to his teamates, he won't play. Ramirez says he's lost respect for his manager.

MIAMI GARDENS

Marlins Get your Marlins Tickets now! manager Fredi Gonzalez said he is benching All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez in Tuesday's game and indefinitely until he, "does the right thing,'' which translates to an apology to his teammates for not hustling in Monday night's 5-1 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Ramirez said before his brief meeting with Gonzalez at his locker that he has nothing to apologize for and despite how it appeared he was going, "as hard as I could go,'' after fouling off a ball on his left shin in the first inning. After the foul he jogged to first base on a double-play grounder. Then in the second inning, he loped after a bloop single after inadvertently kicking it into the left-field corner, allowing two Diamondback runners to score.

Brian Barden, who is ailing with a left ankle injury, is replacing Ramirez at shortstop.

"He's got to take care of some problems, take care of the situation. When he handles that in the right way we'll be fine,'' Gonzalez said. "He needs to talk to his teammates a little bit. Whatever feelings he has with me is fine and dandy. We don't have to get along. I think he needs to get along with 24 other guys on this team. When that happens, we'll run him in there and when he sets his ego aside I think this will be good.''

Ramirez, last year's NL batting champion, said he lost respect for his manager, "in a way,'' and that he's not mentally or physically ready to play.

"He don't understand that. He never played in the big leagues,'' Ramirez said referring to Gonzalez, a career minor leaguer, for not knowing what it feels like to foul a ball off his shin. "It's his team. He can do whatever the [bleep] he wants.''

Ramirez was sporting a bandage on the back of his left shin.

I'm officially scared. I didn't think it was going to blow up like this.

OK, I'm not THAT scared. Hanley is going to start for this team.

What makes you so sure? If he doesn't get off his high horse he could be shown the door. This has been shown from previous players. Especially if he doesn't want to play for Fredi anymore.

Too bad Johnson was only around for half a season. Him and Helms would have something to say to Hanley.

IDK if Johnson really comes off as the guy your tihnking of. He's spent most of his career on the DL.

will owner get invole ? Hanley is superstar of team and fredy is manger if dont work together we doom we do so such without Hanley inline up i hope he not other Miguel Cabrera who have alot issue too

Fredi said he wouldn't put Hanley back in the lineup until he apologized to his teammates. Now that he said that, I really hope the FO doesn't force him to go back on his word if Hanley decides he wants to continue to be a dick - because that'll just make everything worse.

So players only play hurt in the majors? I don't know about that... if anything, you'd think minor leaguers have a little more incentive to put max effort than guys who've already made the big payday.

But for argument's sake – I've heard Dawson (and maybe Pérez too) express concern over your attitude and hustle. Does a Hall Of Famer not understand either? What's your excuse there?

Yup. You can find that in this article. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4520692

Also, the Uggla incident was completely different. That was perceived as a case of Hanley having an extremely prolonged slump and sitting out to preserve his batting title all while the Marlins' play-off chances were in doubt.

None of those factors were at play here. It was a completely different scenario. This might have been a lose-lose situation from the perspective of spectators, but not in the context of actually playing the game.

Not to mention the fact that his visible pain earlier in the game from the shin injury would make it difficult to brand Hanley as faking it.

Hanley has been dogging it down the 1st base line quite a bit lately. At the games I haven't been the only one noticing it. Wasn't hurt then. And he has a rep for doing it. Two years ago he took himself out of the last game of the season, an inportant game to us BTW, to ensure he kept that average above .300. Last year's crap was well documented.

Barden has a slightly sprained ankle. Cody took a 90-something fastball off his knee. See them dogging it?

Don't try to make excuses for him. Sit the prima donna again Tuesday. Or let Uggla take him aside and explain things to him.

How am I making excuses for him? In case you haven't noticed, I've been among the most critical in this thread.

In the context of what I was saying (in response to Nny), I was trying to indicate that if he were indeed injured, it would not have been a lose-lose situation for Hanley to remove himself from the game.
