I'm told that it's beyond pathetically stupid to consider such things when figuring what kind of long-term contract we could sign him to that kept him on the team for 10 more years, instead of 5-8 more years. They tell me it's the money that matters in the end, and 10-50M extra over 10 years(about the same they make or lose by re-negotiating a clause in a concession or parking contract) is too much. I just hope I'm right and they sign him to a contract some consider insane now.

As I said I just hope that I'm right.

When we sign him to an insane contract you and others can take to the streets, bitch and moan on internet message boards, or do whatever you want in protest that we're paying "too much" and that you'd prefer seeing him on another team for some or most of the next 10 years..

We won't bitch and protest because he's not going to get a contract over 200 million dollars at this stage in his career. None of us have denied he's special; we're just saying you've proven to not be very good at math.

If we wait as long as we did with Cabrera, THEN he'll end up signing for $200 million (although I don't think we'll wait even close to that LONG, as Cabrera got his near $200 million deal from the Tigers just shy of his 25th birthday. We'd be the most incompetent front office to not sign him this offseason, let alone not signing him until 2015).

 

This deal will get done this offseason. We'll all be happy because he'll get a contract that will be very similar to what Carlos Gonzalez got right after his near MVP campaign. Stanton will be a Marlin for life. Don't worry.

Is he really injury prone? I don't think he has a long enough track record, unless he also has a history in the minors of injury that I don't know about.

What team have you been watching? He's missed significant time more than once [most namely spring training, twice], he had the surgery this past July, had the hamstring issues last season, and most recently that injury that just kept him out of 9 games. Yeah, he's compiling a list already of injuries,

Even playing less games, he's 100x more productive than the rest of the bums on this team.
