There's an article on Giancarlo Stanton in the most recent edition of MLB Insiders Club magazine by Juan C. Rodriguez. Mostly of how awesome he is and how he's not Mike anymore. Nothing you don't know already. It does feature Ozzie Guillen as the only source quoted. Oh, that awkward moment at a monthly/bi-monthly magazine when something happens that makes your story weird and you can't really do anything about it without screwing over your magazine. I've been there.

 

Here's Ozzie's main quote: "People told me how far this kid could hit. I said, 'I don't need far. I need a lot.' I got both."

I wonder if the Marlins should offer Stanton a contract extention that buys out his cheap years too, such as 2013 and 2014.

 

With payroll as little as it is, should they give him a contract that will vastly over pay him to compensate and get him to sign a longer term deal.

With payroll so low it would be wise to reinvest in the team, but if no one is worth it why not give it to the most deserving you have to get him to resign.

I agree that if they're gonna eventually do it, then just do it now while you can still get a king's ransom for him.

Nah, the Marlins are gonna wait until Stanton suffers an injury or puts up a career worst season, then trade him for half the value they could've gotten for him this offseason.

Stanton will not be arbitration eligible until 2014, and he isn’t eligible for free agency until after the 2016 season. So the Marlins are in no rush to trade Stanton. Yet, it remains highly unlikely he will agree to a long-term contract.

 

It is appearing more inevitable that sometime before he reaches free agency that Stanton will be moved, because the Marlins are reloading their roster, and will look to add as many quality pieces in the next few years.

It's not anything more than an update of previous reports from Frisaro we've discussed. Perhaps a logical interpretation of words from the FO, the one from Dec. 4, found through that same link is the worst to me....but we'll see. Don't believe something that's just an opinion. My guess is things are proceeding behind the scenes.

I think we are all just waiting in suspense for the FO to make there next avoidable blunder. The fuse already burning but no one knows how long it is.

well this part I do agree with... he's probably not in a frame of mind to agree to anything at the moment. Things may improve when he's back in the dugout with the guys, maybe gets a look at Yelich and Fernandez and sees that the team may have a future. Or who knows, he may still be pissed and they deem the best solution is just to move him while he's most valuable. Personally I still think it's a terrible position to take if he & his agent actually go through with it, but hey it's his life.

They're probably better off trading him, to be honest.

I see nothing wrong with at least waiting another year, see how the 2013 team performs and how the future looks for them heading into 2014, if he's still not happy then you trade him.

 

But if the new guys show any chance of being good anytime soon, you keep Stanton to lead them. Either way, too soon to know.
