No, I wouldn't be comfortable giving him 10/200. I said it's not crazy unreasonable because I was looking at it terms of what Votto and Kemp got, but they were further along in their arbitration clocks.

 

There really isn't much point in conceptualizing it in terms of the "per year" dollar amount. The total financial obligation is what matters and 80 million is a lot of extra cash to have on the books.

 

I'm really just not a fan of these contracts exceeding 8 years, no matter who the player is. I think the Votto deal is especially terrible. The Marlins dodged a huge bullet by not landing Pujols. I bet Cardinals fans hoped/wanted Pujols to be with them for his whole career, but at that price tag they are better off without him.

 

The Marlins should start with a Carlos Gonzalez type offer (as Lou suggested) and work from there. I suspect it will take a little bit more than that, though.

10/200 million is way too much for a guy who does have some injury history at such a young age...i would be happy with a 7/105 deal or something along those lines...yes, give him Hanley's money...i want this guy locked up for awhile.

I took out all of April until the 29th, though, so maybe if I put in those games, I'd probably get that number as well.

I'm too lazy to run the numbers again, but that will certainly increase the total. However, I don't really agree with taking April out of the equation as an accurate way of estimating what the HR total would have been without the injury.

 

I do think he has the potential to be a 40-50 HR guy if he's healthy for a whole season.

Whatever "on fire" is, Stanton is twenty times more than that right now.

I don't think most people fully appreciate just how remarkable a season Stanton is having.

 

The only player with more HR/AB is Adam Dunn, and Dunn is batting .204 and all he does is hit HR's, while Stanton hits for 2B just as well as HR's.

 

Stanton's in a class of his own when it comes to raw power. His Isolated Power number is .315. If he qualified, that would make him the major league leader, as nobody has an ISO better than .292.
