gizmo
Triple-A New Orleans right-hander Elih Villanueva will join the Marlins Tuesday night in Philadelphia and start the front end of Wednesday’s doubleheader. A product of Florida State and Miami native, Villanueva was 4-5 with a 5.23 ERA with 28 walks and 47 strikeouts in 13 starts (72 1/3 innings) for the Zephyrs. He’s also allowed 14 home runs, tied for fifth most in the Pacific Coast League. His 1.65 WHIP ranks 50th out of 56 PCL qualifying pitchers, but Villanueva over his last three starts can boast a 1.93 ERA and is coming off six shutout innings against Memphis. The Marlins have not officially announced the move yet. They have to make corresponding transactions to accommodate Villanueva on the 25-man and 40-man rosters. One 40-man option is to place Josh Johnson on the 60-day disabled list. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_baseball_marlins/2011/06/florida-marlins-elih-villanueva-en-route-to-philly-for-wednesday-start.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+marlinsblog+%28Florida+Marlins+|+Sun-Sentinel+Blogs%29 Now people will finally shut up about giving him a chance... mystikol87
Yeah, but without checking the date, it would make it so that (I think) he'd be out at least another month to total 60 days....

Well some people are estimating a July 1-4 return now.
enterthemadness
If this team can somehow get back to .500 and stay at least there by JJ returns, could his return spark a hot streak?
AeroFishOne
JJ is so damn frustrating. He is so good when he's healthy but I swear he is injured just as much as he plays. I have a feeling it will be another two months anyway. Seems the team has a problem estimating dates of returns or announcements on stadiums for that matter. Erick
Facing Philadelphia in Philly seems like the worst possible matchup for Villanueva to make his debut.

dim
With Rizzo and Vilanueva both getting called up this week, Broward is being well represented in the majors.

floridafly
Facing Philadelphia in Philly seems like the worst possible matchup for Villanueva to make his debut. Well Philly certainly isn't the same offensive juggernaut that they were a few years ago. And they've been playing 16 straight games with a record under .500 (about to be 20 :/) But I agree in the that Philly probably is the toughest road environment for a pitcher to make his MLB debut. Hotcorner
Both Koehler and Villanueva have been awful in AAA. Need Sanabia back.

I think he was referring to Villanueva being a flyball pitcher pitching in a bandbox against plenty of guys who can go yard.

GoFishGoMs628
Everyone thinks he will suck, which means he will probably do good. From Rotoworld The Marlins made the move in order to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Wednesday's starter Elih Villanueva. This is a rather significant decision, as it means that Johnson will not return until after the All-Star break
BroncoBob27
Where's watertown? Near the Georgia border. But I had to look it up. The only Watertown I knew of was in upstate New York. Very upstate.

Case in hand is Volstad and Vazquez - everyone always expects them to suck. And they do.

I wish Elih well, I really hope he's able to keep the Marlins in the game. What I'm truly amazed at once again is the Marlins awesome medical staff, where they go from 2 weeks to 2 months on JJ. Seriously I'm getting tired of players having a "minor injury" and then losing them for most of the season, could they send him to Dr. Andrews already! :banghead
