July 11, 201115 yr I coulda swore he was always good against lefties. :blink: Yea he's pretty much always been good against lefties... his past numbers are skewed because he wasn't used as a LOOGY until just recently. Its all the time he had to face righties that has hurt his numbers. Side note, as I was leaving the stadium after last nights game, I'm crossing in front of a car thats stopped in that perimeter road around the stadium and outloud I jokingly yelled to the girl I'm walking with "My mother always said make eye contact with the driver, if they can't see you, they WILL run you over!" ...So I make obvious blatant eye contact, then nod my head to the driver... and of course, its Randy Choate! haha! ...my jokes continued as I said "Oh crap, good thing I'm not a lefty, or he would killed me" Oh yeah... the point of this thread... Nunez and Dobbs can go, thats it... we probably need Ricky and Ani longterm, Vazquez probably wont get us much, nobody wants Helms, and Choate is too cheap and valuable to trade unless its for something huge.
July 11, 201115 yr if you're gonna trade away some starting pitching then i'd deal volstad. but i'd rather they not touch the starting pitching...right now. Still...wouldn't surprise me if they lit the whole team on fire and sold it off piece by piece.
July 11, 201115 yr How about Omar Infante?? No one mentioned on him. He will become the FA after this season. and I'm not concered about his defense ability but I think he cannot be the every day second baseman. And we just prepare our new 2nd baseman for next season, Chris Coghlan.

July 11, 201115 yr He still puts up solid #'s when it's all said and done on a yearly basis with 200+ innings of work when healthy. And if I ever believed in the whole "he's a winner" theory, it would be because of Nolasco. No matter what his ERA is, he usually ends up with a solid record because when he's on, he can flat out dominate for prolonged stretches of time. You don't trade a #3/potential #2 in his prime, especially when you have no pitching depth in the organization. Same with Anibal. We can't be trading the few proven young arms we have in the system right now. I think it'd be silly to even trade Volstad, at this point. No, he doesn't. He put up solid numbers in 2008, but he hasn't been putting up good enough numbers to be a number 3, imo. I don't want to just trade Nolasco for the hell of it. I'm hoping a team out there believs he is a number 2 and could over pay with a good pitching prospect. If not, I'd rather keep Nolasco.

That's not how club options work. The Red's front office decides whether or not to exercise the $12 million option. He's likely looking for Dan Uggla money. Cincinnati probably doesn't give him an extension, but I'd say that it's likely that they exercise the $12 million option to keep him on the team next year. They will probably spend that year to try to work out an extension and just retain a well-rounded second baseman.

This isn't just any other season for the franchise, we have to finish as strong as possible to continue the momentum going into the new ballpark. I personally highly doubt that Loria trades Nolasco AND Sanchez, that would be retarded. I think Sanchez is a keeper, and if we can get some good talent from Nolasco then perfect, but being sellers and revamping our team going into a new stadium? DOUBT IT.

It looks like if anything major happens it will be via free agency. I agree trading parts away now looks bad going into a new stadium. If the team flounders again in August, some changes will be made but I think Loria is kind of trapped and doesn't have many options. Sort of sucks for him if these guys (Morrison, Stanton, Coghlan, Sanchez, (Matt) Dominguez) don't pan out. He will either have to start spending a ton by 2013 & 2014 or do another selloff, which may just be the death blow to his ownership. A lot of folks don't already trust him, if he does that AFTER the new stadium, forget it. Not a fun place to be for him - its got to be uncomfortable from that standpoint right now. That June swoon just has wrecked a lot of the future plans.

Yeah, and those pieces have no value to us as assets beyond this season. Only Nunez has a season of club-control left, and it won't come cheaply. Anything we get is a bonus compared to what would happen if we stood pat.
