December 8, 201114 yr mlbtraderumors: Marlins Were High Bidders For Pujols, Wilson The same Big League Stew tracker statees that Miam bid up to $275/10 years for Pujols and went as high as 100m/ 6 for CJ. That is effing crzy and they still didn't sign with us, what gives?
December 8, 201114 yr Author In hindsight, I think we dodged a bullet with these near misses, talk about burying the organization in 5 years. Wilson is not that good, and Pujols is great but he has probably 4 good years left. The Angels are insane but we were actually more insane. lol I think knowing this we will really see Miami push hard for Cespedes, Miami is the only team crazy enough to pony up the money. Does anyone know when the Cespedes thing will heat up, that will be our next mega thread.
December 8, 201114 yr Oh well. At least I can't accuse Pujols of using us against the Cardinals. That much makes me feel better. Or at least... it didn't work.
December 8, 201114 yr I also think the "No no-trade clause" bit was the dealbreaker for Pujols. More than likely. But I'm glad we didn't sign him after looking at the $$$ involved.
December 8, 201114 yr I also think the "No no-trade clause" bit was the dealbreaker for Pujols. If we offered him the highest contract in MLB history I think he would probably get over it.

December 8, 201114 yr Nah, he has money. He wanted to make sure he did not get traded when he was 37-38 to Kansas City. Pretty sure his 10-5 rights would negate that possibility.. could be mistaken though.

Pretty sure his 10-5 rights would negate that possibility.. could be mistaken though. You are correct. Thats why I'm saying he probably would have taken his chances of being traded within five years if it meant 275 million dollars.

Pretty sure his 10-5 rights would negate that possibility.. could be mistaken though. You're right. I don't think this report is factual. No way he rejects that kind of money. It would've made him the highest paid player in the history of the game. At least with C.J. Wilson, he gave a hometown discount so it's understandable.
December 8, 201114 yr It's probably some BS Lozano-based rumor to try and make Pujols not look like the complete money-grubbing whore that he is (Not an insult, I would have done the same thing). No way he turns down 275 (!) mil to come here.
December 8, 201114 yr when i saw he signed with the angels i did a series of impressive mental cartwheels in rejoicement that we didn't waste that much money. I'm still baffled as to why so many of you wanted him here with that monstrous price tag. Gaby is a far cry from Albert but he's still better than a lot of other 1B's. why upgrade a position that's already not weak and ignore the glaring areas (rotation anyone? - even with Marky Mark it's still not the greatest)
December 8, 201114 yr I think it's embarrassing, if true. You offer two guys larger contracts than the team that signed them, including a contract that will make a player the richest player in MLB history, and they still turn it down and don't want to play for your organization.
December 8, 201114 yr he had the marlins on his short list of teams he'd be willing to have been traded to so I highly doubt this is credible.
December 8, 201114 yr Money isn't everything. Pujols already has that. I would also think he would have a better chance at winning here.. Maybe he doesn't ant to win. Actually, maybe he is a turd.
December 8, 201114 yr There is absolutely no chance I would've given Pujols A-Rod money. If 10 years, $275 million would've been the offer Pujols accepted to us, I would've been absolutely furious. Also, Loria has gone crazy.
