Winter Meetings Rumors

Featured Replies

He's probably got as much chance as Hechavarria does - and our front office seems to have posters of him taped to the ceiling above their beds.

Wow, trading Matt Dominguez was a totally stupid move. They had to have an idea that they may need him next season. You can't tell me that they didn't have blowing up the team at the end of the year on the back of their minds when they got Lee...

almost as stupid as thinking Carlos Lee was going to carry them to a playoff run.

For what it's worth, most people here seemed to like the move when it was made.

Had we known what I'm assuming the FO had been at least considering for the offseason, I don't think anyone here would have made that move.

It's not just that. Carlos Lee flat out sucked and it wasn't unexpected.

Teams inquiring on Ricky Nolasco's availability are being told by the Marlins that the right-hander won't be traded, according to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark (via Twitter). Nolasco's agent Matt Sosnick told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick yesterday that his client would prefer to be dealt, though he hadn't formally requested a trade.

Taking into account the blockbuster deal the Marlins consummated last month, it seems that Nolasco would be a logical trade candidate for Miami. He's set to earn an eight-digit salary in 2013, and doesn't necessarily seem to fit in the team's long-term plans. However, even if he were available, he likely wouldn't net a significant return unless the Marlins were willing to pay a portion of his salary.

Can someone please tell me why?

We need a somewhat established starter in the rotation until the someone else emerges from either within the rotation or from the minor league system...The Marlins know they have talented arms but the ride is gonna be a bumpy one in the beginning...Nolasco should provide somewhat of a bit of stability every 5th day. I agree he may be gone by July but by then we will absolutely know a lot more about the rest of the rotation...(Maybe Fernandez or someone else will be ready by then)

BTW I would take Dominguez over anyone else out there at 3rd base. His glove alone is far superior to just about any name you can come up with even if he hit .250 with 10-12 HRs per year he would have been a huge asset for the team...Oh Well, that ship has sailed

Carlos Lee sucked before he came to the marlins. It was pretty expected. But hey, he gets RBIs!!!!!!!

I would take Matty D any day over Jack Hannahan

This sounds about right

“I don’t think there are any third basemen out there that we haven’t talked about, president of baseball operations Admin Beinfest said. “We’ll get somebody.

People really rag on the Lee thing too much. Yes he stunk but yes he got RBIs and nobody else in our offense besides Stanton did that. I'm not big on losing Dominguez but the move wasn't such a bad idea in July. It was a crossed fingers hope for something better. It was a gamble, thats it. I've seen worse/

I think it was a bad move in July because it was pretty obvious that the Marlins needed much more upgrading than Carlos Lee to be a legitimate contender. When you factor in defense, Lee really wasn't much of an upgrade over Gaby Sanchez.

Despite his RBIs, Lee was a 0.0 WAR player for the Marlins.

they could probably trade Rickly, sign Pavano and still get the same performance. I'm fine trading him at the deadline I guess... he won't be any better but at least a team could get him for a couple of months cheaper.

The Marlins are finding even modestly-priced free agents are reluctant to sign with Miami, even for a one-year, guaranteed deal.

There is an issue of trust after Mark Buehrle and Jose Reyes, who signed multi-year deals last December, were moved after one season in South Florida.

At the Winter Meetings, I spoke with one veteran player who is looking for a job. “I don’t want any part of that fiasco, he said.

Good. I'm glad. All those free agents need to make that clear. The reason for them not signing isn't money or years or anything but not wanting to join this stupidity.

That's just perfect lol

Eh, Nolasco is actually really inconsistent.

the Marlins are only interested in Carl Pavano if he'll accept a low base salary of $3MM or so plus incentives, Phil Mackey of ESPN 1500 reports. Pavano's agent met with the Twins yesterday, Mackey adds.

I would think if they load up enough realistic incentives he still might agree, but bet someone will still offer him 2 years...

Well if he gets incentives similar to Juan Pierre's, how could he refuse!

He's a winner, man.

Because July should bring more for him.

Need someone to eat innings.

Because Loria knows how much I hate him.

Hahahahahahaha
