Trade Stanton, Seriously, Trade Stanton Now

Featured Replies

a) His value is at its lowest right now.

b) How does Ozuna make Stanton "redundant?"

1b) Ozuna has been nice, but he's not as good as Stanton.

2b) We currently have Juan Pierre in LF. Ozuna can just move over when the big guy comes back.

c) Mike Olt is looking a whole lot like a bust. If Mike Olt was in the big leagues right now, we'd be saying he sucks. The guy is basically not an interesting prospect at this point.

d) If they trade Stanton, I'm actually now hoping it's to St. Louis instead of Texas.

e) They don't have to trade Stanton. You seem a bit overexcited about prospects (who's Issac? Galloway? Lol).

Who could we get from St. Louis? I know they have Oscar Taveras. You think they would be willing to throw in Shelby Miller?

Might as well trade him.

I mean...gotta keep Uggla the HR leader as a Marlin for a bit longer laugh out loud.

Stanton, for all his potential, will never be more than a 37-40 home run a year hitter. April is always a complete bust for him, then he goes on a tear in May, only to cool down again and suck month after month until he heats up in September again. Then there are the injuries. If they happen on a month where he normally gets hot (like May this year) we are completely out of luck.

Let's face it, Stanton is not the modern reincarnation of Babe Ruth or Hank Aaron.

i am not in favor of trading stanton.

the biggest difference that i see between him and ozuna right now is in fact that ozuna has been a much better situational hitter so far. He has shown a much better ability to hit balls the other way, up the middle, and with runners in scoring position. He has power and that will come.

Stanton on the other hand has shown the ability to hit home runs but not the ability to consistently go the other way and excel with runners on.

In my opinon, thats a much better omen for ozuna than for stanton. Ozuna is getting the hard part out of the way first and that will make it much easier for him to excel.

As I expected, Stanton's career batting average with RISP is below .260 at .251. For a hitter of his perceived caliber, that should be much higher.

Fifteen seasons of that and he's one of the 9 best power hitters to ever live.

I think I could live with that.

Anybody who won't take 35 home runs a season consistently is unrealistic about what good players hit.

Probably not, but they have other guys. Carlos Martinez, Michael Wacha, and Kolten Wong are some of their top prospects.

They just seem to develop talent really well. Matt Adams isn't a prospect, but he's a good young hitter with lots of power and no spot in St. Louis because they're loaded. Seth Maness, now their 7th inning guy, is a starter who gets a lot of groundballs and literally walks no one (ok not literally, but seriously, check out his walk rates...insane).

Their team is so homegrown that I would just trust the return more coming from them. Guys like Allan Craig and Matt Carpenter weren't really prospects either, but they've turned out to be quality big league players.

The return from Texas that's always talked about for Stanton no longer seems interesting. Mike Olt is struggling, Martin Perez is looking like a bust, etc. With the exception of Profar, I don't understand the excitement about such a deal anymore. Stanton is worth a lot more than one prospect with great upside and a bunch of question marks who are currently struggling.

Might as well trade him.

Well, that would certainly suck . . .

Stanton cannot hit with RISP. I like that he hits bombs, but he is not a prototypical run producer.

He has a career .864 .OPS with runners in scoring position...

i also agree he seemed disinterested when he was out in RF this year. He didn't act a tool like Hanley did but he certainly seemed to have lost a sense of urgency going after balls and even on the basepaths. He just played at a "hermida" speed for his time he was in the lineup. I'm sick and tired of him being injured over and over and over as well. Maybe he does tear it up with another team but I've honestly stopped seeing him as a potential MVP candidate down the road because he just can't stay healthy for a full season (and i'm not talking about missing just a week or two either). My concern is that they'd trade him and get 2 relievers and a 3b prospect in A ball who's hitting .268 but "with great upside". I've been very impressed with Ozuna so far, and while a season it doesn't make he started out hot, had a little slump, and seems to have readjusted already as the scouting reports are changing on him again. Small sample size but it's been impressive to see.

I agree on Texas. They should be off the table.

I like the prospects you mentioned, but it would be tough not to demand their two best prospects for someone like Stanton. Especially when one of them is Miller.

Stanton cannot hit with RISP. I like that he hits bombs, but he is not a prototypical run producer.

He has a career .864 .OPS with runners in scoring position......with a .251 AVG. those type of numbers will keep him from being a perennial 100 RBI guy. Ozuna, although not as dynamic a player, seems like the type that will put the ball in play and produce w guys on base. He's a prototypical cleanup guy. I haven't seen anyone on this team as clutch since Miggy. Not Ozuna will be Miggy, but he just fits that mold a player than Stanton.

That's the difference between a guy like Votto and Miggy. Though both are great hitters, Votto is looking more to just get on base with RISP while Cabrera is looking to drive in the run. You guys remember the IBB hit from Cabrera when he was a Marlin that scored Hanley? That play kinda sums up the type of hitter Cabs is.

Like Eric said, he has a .856 OPS with RISP. What's the big deal here?

Stanton has always been kinda clumsy in the OF. He's even clumsy when he talks. He's also not 100%.

He's probably not disinterested. He doesn't even have a big contract yet. It's easy to assume a player is disinterested when he's struggling.

The big deal is that he doesn't drive in the run, which you're supposed to do in those situations.his AVG is .251

With an .864 .OPS.

Saying we should get rid of a guy because he's not Miguel Cabrera is absurd.

Should we trade Jose Fernandez too? He's not pitching like Felix Hernandez yet.

Votto has had over 100 RBI's twice and would've done it for a third consecutive year last year had he stayed healthy. If that's your reasoning for Stanton never reaching 100 RBI's, it's not a good one.

A player shouldn't be evaluated solely on the amount of RBI's he has.

Also, for the RBI crowd, Stanton had 86 RBI's in 123 games last year playing on a shitty team.

I agree that trading Stanton now would be bad timing...

However if you can get Oscar Tavares and Shelby Miller for him today you freakin' do it.

Ozuna is a monster in the making. Stanton is a monster but he is a monster that is always locked up in chains behind a castle wall where he can't terrorize the kingdom and to me that is a very useless monster. My biggest fear is that he stays here a few more years and never ever plays a full season and when we do get around to trading him he will be looks at as a injury prone high risk player not worth more than one good prospect and he will suddenly turn it on when he skips town. I thought Hanley would do the same thing but he isn't winning any batting titles in LA right now and he sucked last year in his time with them.

Votto will put the ball in play and also hits for average in those situations, so 100+ RBI is inevitable for him a full season. I'm just saying that Cabrera is more aggressive at the plate in those situations, which I think values a team more.
