March 25, 201412 yr Author That was evidence of what a healthy Morrison can do. Don't throw it by the wayside because it disproves your post. You're allowed to be wrong, you know. What just about any player did 3 years ago is irrelevant in trying to predict their performance today. Case in point, Jones' 2012 season.
March 25, 201412 yr That is two years ago, and thus goes against your three years ago point. Good day, sir. I am off to slumber, as tomorrow, I celebrate my achievement of another year of survival since I came into this world.
March 25, 201412 yr Author That is two years ago, and thus goes against your three years ago point. Good day, sir. I am off to slumber, as tomorrow, I celebrate my achievement of another year of survival since I came into this world. I think that proved my point even further; look how far Jones has tailed since a career year in '12. That season means nothing when you look at how bad he was last year. It's no longer relevant.
March 25, 201412 yr You were saying we can't know how a healthy Morrison would do, when I gave you a year that had a healthy Morrison for over 120 games. We saw what he did. And this is another case of your pick-n-choose method of what works for you. You can't say Jones 2012 isn't relevant now because of how bad his 2013 was, when you spout off on how Hechavarria could possibly be successful because of his AAA numbers. With this post, you are saying Hechavarria's 2012 numbers in AAA are no longer relevant since his 2013 was horseshit. So which is it? Does Jones have a chance to rebound to his 2012 numbers along with Hechavarria being possibly successful as a Major League batter, or is 2012 irrelevant because their 2013 seasons were so bad that they made Gandhi cry?
March 25, 201412 yr Include Today's cuts... this will be 25 man roster. Pitchers(12) Rotation(5) : Jose-Eovaldi-Alvarez-Turner-(Koehler or Hand) Lefty(2) : Dunn, Jennings Righty(5) : Cishek©, Marmol, Ramos, Slowey, H.Rod. Hitters(13) Catcher(2) : Salty-Mathis IF(6) : Baker, (DD or Solano), Dobbs, Hech, Jones, McGehee OF(5) : Bogusevic, (Marisnick or Ozuna), Stanton, Yelich, R.Johnson Slowey, Rodriguez and Reed Johnson will make a team as a NRI. Capps and Caminero were optioned Furcal will be listed on DL Remaining Questions 1. 5th Starter/Long Relief (Koehler or Hand or Slowey) 2. Regular/Backup 2nd base man (DD or Solano or Even Baker?) 3. Regular CF or LF (Marisnick or Ozuna)
March 25, 201412 yr Caminero and/or Capps would make 20+ other bullpens in baseball. They'd be a closer in a few places (like Houston). Pretty insane.
March 25, 201412 yr Caminero and/or Capps would make 20+ other bullpens in baseball. They'd be a closer in a few places (like Houston). Pretty insane. Agree 100% and they're both better/more upside than Rodriguez or Marmol. That's our fishies!
March 25, 201412 yr Tom D'Angelo of the Palm Beach Post: The infield is muddled with Rafael Furcal’s balky hamstring which is keeping alive the possibility of Derek Dietrich or Donovan Solano starting at second to open the season and Solano and Ed Lucas still in the picture for a backup spot. And Greg Dobbs’ $1.7 million contract does not automatically gain him a spot on the roster. hmmm?
March 25, 201412 yr Author That would be awesome to see them drop Dobbs so they can keep Lucas on the bench for the corners and two OFers in Bogus and Johnson. Releasing Dobbs is literally the perfect solution to this bench logjam. Having both Baker and Lucas on the bench would be very valuable.
March 25, 201412 yr clarkspencer @clarkspencer Greg Dobbs (quad) went 1 x 5 as DH in minor league game #Marlins. Gave thumbs up sign afterward.
March 25, 201412 yr In regards to Morrison, he is so terrible defensively that he'll never be very valuable. I can't believe that Seattle is stupid enough to put him back in LF (not that he's any good at 1B, either). Regarding Dobbs, he's definitely making the team. His veteran presence is too valuable. He's Wes Helms with cool points for being left-handed.
March 25, 201412 yr They're not going to cut Dobbs, unfortunately. He's someone in the FO's favorite. Otherwise I don't know why you sign old utility infielders to multi year deals.
March 25, 201412 yr They're not going to cut Dobbs, unfortunately. He's someone in the FO's favorite. Otherwise I don't know why you sign old utility infielders to multi year deals. Pretty obvious that someone is Loria considering Loria did the deal himself.
March 25, 201412 yr I don't remember that part, but I did assume he was responsible. Yes, actually pretty amazing that Loria has the foresight to lock up such a professional and veteran presence. Owner Jeffrey Loria took it upon himself to negotiate Greg Dobbs' $1.7 million 2014 contract. September 26, 2013|By Juan C. Rodriguez, Sun Sentinel A source confirmed Marlins' utility man Greg Dobbs earlier this season agreed to one-year, $1.7 million contract to remain with the club in 2014. A member of the Marlins since 2011, Dobbs would have qualified for free agency at season's end. If you don't like the deal, don't blame President ofBaseball Operations Admin Beinfest or General Manager Mike Hill as neither had anything to do with it. Owner Jeffrey Loria, the source said, negotiated the pact unbeknownst to his top baseball officials.
March 26, 201412 yr Author He may actually be. Is this from your contacts or a hunch? That would certainly help the bench.
March 26, 201412 yr Man even if Loria is giving more power to Hill and Jennings I can't imagine Loria being too pleased with Dobbs being cut. I doubt it happens regardless though.
March 26, 201412 yr It would just be fantastic if he was released. You were fine with paying Rafael Furcal $3.5 million to be a mentor, so why not pay Greg Dobbs half the price to do it?
March 26, 201412 yr You were fine with paying Rafael Furcal $3.5 million to be a mentor, so why not pay Greg Dobbs half the price to do it? Thats probably the way Loria justifies it too.
