August 10, 201511 yr Author Another positive: I feel like this board has been very active all year long. The board used to be barren during bad seasons.
August 10, 201511 yr me... Hech - I really didn't expect him to hit above .240 Capps - woohoo Giancarlo - did his thing Dee - his D is better than i had read Yelich - contract Jose's back end
August 10, 201511 yr Realmuto has certainly been a top-20 catcher over the past 2 months. It's not an "at least he's not Salty" situation. He's been playing pretty well, but it's questionable if it's sustainable. that's stupid. you're stupid. he's putting up extremely respectable numbers as an essential rookie. mostly defensively. he's absolutely this team's catcher for the next handful of years. stupid. Positives? This glass can't become half full. ban this guy already.
August 10, 201511 yr After the Buck, Salty crap, Realmuto is a just a joy. Stanton has been the biggest positive for me, even with the injury. Even on this crappy team he was leading the majors in HRs and RBIs.
August 10, 201511 yr yeah Hech is #1 and JT is 1a. I'm pretty bullish on Realmuto. He might already be the best catcher in the bigs once he's on the basepaths. His athleticism is always going to help and as he gets more and more time behind the plate his defense should only get better. I really like his bat too, maybe draw a few more walks but he seems like he hits everything hard. Sure part of it is just that we haven't had much at the position for a long time, but as a rookie I have no complaints. Pair him & Telis up next season and hopefully we're set for a while. Also as the season winds down hopefully we can at least get some glimpses of Nicolino or Conley being able to contribute in the rotation.
August 10, 201511 yr Realmuto for sure. I love how fast he is for a catcher definitely a plus. Beating out those grounders and avoiding those double plays to extend the inning helps, also how his defense is sure handed. Hech defense has been great, same thing for Dee. No worries up the middle at least defensive wise. Carter Capps is absolutely disgusting right now on the mound. Stanton bouncing back and throwing up a potential monster year before he got hurt. Jose Fernandez performing well from TJ until the biceps strain.
August 11, 201511 yr Carter Capps Brad Hand Dee Gordon's April and May Derek Deitrich its gonna be awesome when they trade Deitrich for a 29 year old who pitches 1 inning for the Marlins before being DFA'd. Dee Gordon is having a carbon copy of 2014 here in 2015. Great for the Marlins.
August 12, 201511 yr Dee Gordon is having a carbon copy of 2014 here in 2015. Great for the Marlins. UNSUSTAINABLE they said!!!
August 13, 201511 yr I think Fernandez coming back healthy is the best thing. He is a franchise changing player. Not worried about the bicep. Next best is Hech. The scouting on the defense was real. It's amazing he has the 4th best WAR in baseball for a SS (Crawford, Kang, Boegarts). I think that is probably a reach to sustain, but I see no reason he can't be an average starter moving forward which is great. Certainly upside with defense and if he gets a little more slugging. I would say Gordon replicating the performance is next best, followed by the emergence of Realmuto, Capps, and Ramos in that order. All huge question marks, all big pieces to move forward with. I'm pretty optimistic on the deadline trades. They may have secured their longterm backup catcher and some relievers. Have to wait and see what they do with the $20 million they saved, but you can't argue getting Morse off the books wasn't a good idea. If all those guys play like 2015 in 2016, Yelich, Ozuna, and Cosart play like 2014, they get some veteran SP, and Fernandez and Stanton stay healthy, 2016 will be fun. Hope moneybags lets them sign the right pitchers and get a friend for Bour.
August 13, 201511 yr Hey at least Dee got a pick me up from that shit tastic Red Sox pitching staff. Since I'm not sure it was posted by me: Hech is a positive. You could see it last year, the defensive metrics didnt back it up, but eyeballs did as far as his defense. His offense hasnt been bad the last two seasons really. People are just now buying into it. Realmuto looks to be a viable big leaguer behind the plate. If he can continue to work with the staff and become a great receiver, him hitting in the .260s - .270s would be damn good. Gordon - he needs to run more to take advantage of his speed, but he is a player they can use for the next couple of years for sure. Yelich - obvious he was hurt in April. His talent has taken over since coming back from injury. Ramos - he has been good, relievers are a dime a dozen though. If someone offered me a nice package for him, I move him in a heart beat. I dont see Ramos being the next Mariano. Capps - still concerned they make his delivery illegal (it should be). If they make it illegal, he is fucked. If they allow it, he can continue to do very well. Hand - legit back end starter/swing man. Marlins wont be able to afford him, should deal him. Dietrich - not sure why Mr. Tastee didnt play him everyday sooner. Having him learn LF on the fly hasnt been the disaster I thought it would be. Could even argue its quickly turning into his best position. Thats it.
August 13, 201511 yr Hechavarrias offense is still really bad. Its just that now that his defensive metrics have improved it is not as noticeable.
August 13, 201511 yr Hechavarrias offense is still really bad. Its just that now that his defensive metrics have improved it is not as noticeable. he has a 1.0 offensive WAR you can hardly say its really bad.
August 13, 201511 yr He has a 1.0 offensive WAR you can hardly say its really bad. Fangraphs has him at -6.3.
August 13, 201511 yr Fangraphs has him at -6.3. That's not WAR, that's their own Offense stat. However, you're right, Hech has been bad on offense. That's okay now that his defense is checking in extremely positively. Also, this year's Hech has been bad on offense, but not horrible like in past years. A bad offensive SS with elite defense is worth a starting role. LADY AND GENTLEMEN, A SONGINTHEAIR POST THAT IS POSITIVE ABOUT HECH. I've really turned the corner. That being said, @JackRubysDog will enjoy donating $20 to @Admin within the next month and a half.
August 13, 201511 yr Fangraphs has him at -6.3. then they are stupid. he is #9 in OPS in all of baseball at the position.
August 14, 201511 yr That being said, @JackRubysDog will enjoy donating $20 to @Admin within the next month and a half. what's the bet?
August 14, 201511 yr Remember when you guys were all over me for saying that Hech isn't a good hitter and that his april was a huge outlier that was inflating his OPS. That was cool.
August 14, 201511 yr Remember when you guys were all over me for saying that Hech isn't a good hitter and that his april was a huge outlier that was inflating his OPS. That was cool. Are you in favor of a change at SS?
August 14, 201511 yr Remember when you guys were all over me for saying that Hech isn't a good hitter and that his april was a huge outlier that was inflating his OPS. That was cool. EDIT: WAIT I READ THIS COMPLETELY WRONG WHEN I FIRST SAW IT. JUST WOKE UP. SORRY. BASICALLY I AGREE WITH YOU AND I DOUBT I WAS ONE OF THE "ALL OVER YOU (UNLESS YOU MEAN SEXUALLY)" April: .321/.349/.481 May: .283/.314/.323 June: .258/.303/.387 July: .247/.276/.290 August: .300/.341/.425 Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I didn't realize his April was basically carrying his offensive season (until the last 7 days). Regardless, he's clearly figured out something defensivley and him and dee are an absolute joy to watch.

With a UZR/150 of 20.2, he could walk up to the plate and try to fit a whole bag of sunflower seeds in his mouth for all I care. Well, as long as he doesn't choke. Then we wouldn't have his defense, either.
