January 13, 201610 yr Having thought about this a bit more, I still think a lot more work needs to be done before the Marlins are remotely close to being legit contenders. So far they haven't done anything more than find a platoon partner for Bour and replace Henderson Alvarez. Sure Alvarez wouldn't have given the Marlins 200 innings but a healthy Alvarez is a better pitcher than Chen is. I really wish the Marlins could upgrade Ozuna's or Prado's spots in the lineup.

January 13, 201610 yr As i been saying. And ive seen othets share my idea. Go all in. You signed stanton to that huge deal, your locking everyone up. You signed chen. Dont let this go to waste. Sign cespedes, trade ozuna for a pitcher, add pieces if needed. A strong 1-2 with Chen as a third starter is a scary team. Go out and scoop both lincecum and lee on incentive laden deals. If it explodes in your face u didnt commot to lincecum or lee longer than a year. And you still are around the same payroll with the exception of cespedes and that extra pitcher u traded for which spells ozuna. We can win but we need to wheel and deal.
January 13, 201610 yr they aren't getting a good enough pitcher for Ozuna IMO and you're just leaving a hole in CF. He's better than Yelich in CF and still has some room to grow offensively. Let's see if Bonds can do something with him. Go sign Lee or Fister.

January 14, 201610 yr I was pleasantly surprised to see that they didn't overpay for Dee Gordon. The Marlins are a #2 starter away from being playoff contenders (barring major injuries to core players). thats always the train wreck in waiting for this team. Injuries with no depth.

Nationals wont be the joke they were last year, if there is one thing Dusty Baker will do is keep that team in contention all year and probably win the division. They have the most overall talent in the division and its not even close. Matt Williams was such a fucking horrible manager in all aspects of managing. He was TERRIBLE at bullpen management. He was even worse at being the leader in the clubhouse and making sure his team was prepared each night. You can bet your sweet ass that will change with Dusty. He may burn out an arm or two here and there (the Prior/Wood stuff is so overrated and unrightly blamed MOSTLY on Dusty, especially Prior), but damn he keeps his teams prepared, they love playing for the man and they will do well. He also knows how to run a game more often than not. The Mets are a clear 2nd if only due to their rotation. They can afford to even lose 1 arm for a while and still be a #2 team. Marlins have zero depth. Injuries will push them back toward the pack. And if you think there will be 100% health, you havent watched much baseball over the years. Marlins have a horse at the front, a pretty good #3, a solid #5 and a ton of questions/hopes/prayers. I'm skeptical on their bullpen, relievers are flashes in the pan often and especially at first there were lack of scouting reports on most of their arms they brought up, how much advanced scouting went into the Marlins from August on, I'm not sure about. I would say overall as a bullpen, maybe 55/45 that it can be good or that the pitchers they had performing well last year will do so again. Phillies probably finish 4th or maybe the Braves. Both will finish with at least 90 losses and will be in competition for the #1 overall pick, so there's that.

If the Marlins wanna do it, now's the time to swoop in and sway him from the Mets.

January 15, 201610 yr The Mets and nats lineups aren't that great. The mets bullpen sucks. Neither of those teams is complete. The Marlins could very much compete with them if our players stayed healthy this year (and maybe one more SP). All the "culture of losing guys" mentioned don't make or break this team. Hand is most likely gone. Ramos I'm not certain why he's lumped in with those others. Mathis is a backup catcher that plays sparingly but the pitchers love pitching to, especially Fernandez. Cosart was hurt all last year and although the stat heads dislike him, he's been solid whenever he's pitched for the Marlins and been healthy. Dunn did regress last year but every single team has a few guys that aren't great and I still think our pen is better than the mets pen.
