Someone on the logos forum made a great point that the dark logo actually works best on black because it accentuates the neon lights effect and because, on a light background the black marlin looks like the poor fish got caught in an oil spill. Horrible imagery but it's true because the fish looking like it's black is different than if the fish just looks like it's in the darkness.

I like that.  Maybe the jersey mark will be a blue script with no marlin (like the original Home shirt)

To be fair I assume that's not "the Marlins" as much as automated/pre programmed emails from MLB shop/Fanatics that are sent out regularly. Simple business tactics. They won't miss out on a few extra sales just to make sure you wait for the updated gear.

Ok, so I only had time to do part of my "assignment".

 

I constructed the logo in Illustrator from the two images we've seen (the one on the Spring training ticket and the cap picture)

 

I then put them over 4 different backgrounds.  the Salmon and blue backgrounds do need a black outline to keep the drop shadow of those two colors from being washed out

 

 

I then took those variations and created caps of them:

 

 

Tomorrow I'll work on the "MIAMI" and "MARLINS" script to put on some uniforms.  Hope you all enjoy this step.

Something to keep in mind with the hats - I did my best to make the logo look real on their stretching and skewing it a bit to create perspective, so I may have gotten that a bit off, which would affect the look.  Also, I think I made the salmon hat a bit too red.
