In thinking about the jersey options some more I thinks a blue script “Marlins” is the best path.  Their original shirt with the teal script was far superior to the 2003-2011 black version.  You can pair it with a black on black hat (as was the case with the black F hat). It brings color to an otherwise dark format.  As another poster mentioned they specifically asked about block v script and with or without marlin during their surveys.  So these choices would seem to be ones considered.

I've got issues with it. 

 

The fish and the ball look great and are a subtle throwback to the original primary logo.

 

But the lettering in Miami is weird. The letters are disjointed. They look like separate letters connected instead of one flowing script. It's bad cursive. Rmcs letters were better.

 

And, a minor thing, but all the darkness is troubling. I like it on the cap logo but I'd have colored the Miami blue on the wordmark. We've got great colors I'm afraid they wont use them enough.

 

Also those images make the accent color look red orange instead of pink again. Not sure how I feel about that.

Same, it really is like Jeter is trying to use a modern version of the original look. Both logos have elements of that look, albeit with a lot of updates.
