Miami Herald (Mish & Jackson article) stated we could go with 9 relief pitchers this season, at least at the beginning.

They said there are seven spots essentially locked in with Bass, Garcia, Floro, Curtiss, Detwiler, Cimber, and Bleier.

Leaves a spot (or two) for Hoyt, Bender, Pop, and Campbell.

Bender does also have minor league options though, so ... we'll see.

Also have to contend with the Gio Gonzalez signing.

My guess is that we go with Mags, Pop, and Campbell and option Brinson, Hoyt, and Bender. I don't think Gio will be ready for the start of the season considering he still hasn't appeared in a game yet. Injuries and trades are likely so we should still see all of those guys in the big leagues- or trade them- this year.

Also, my gut tells me that they are going to go with Isan over Jazz since neither look ready, but Isan has nothing left to prove at AAA. The long odds option would be to option both and go with Brinson with Berti starting at 2B.

I still have a 90% certainty that both Brinson and Mags make the team, but I'm starting to wonder about Cimber -- he's got options left and hasn't really looked indispensable (not bad or anything, just not lights out). I could see him go down, Guzman hit the IL, and then Bender make the team. 

Though I guess in that scenario, they will lose one of Campbell/Pop, which I don't think they want.

Cimber wouldn't be a bad idea to send down either, you're right - we got him for $100K and he's making less than $1M so not like we have to keep him up.

Depends on what happens end of Spring too, might have an IL guy or two we have to worry about.

I remember when people got pissed when Yamamoto lost that battle. If we have learned anything the last few years it's that while the new ownership has struggled to evaluate and develop position players, they are damn good at it for pitchers.

Bender's stuff is just plain nasty, He looks like he may be our closer very soon

It's pretty obvious Berti needs to be our everyday second basemen. Put Jazz in the minors, Diaz last off the bench and only plays 2nd when Anderson or Rojas need a day off

If Berti is going to start then start Isan at 2B and Jazz at SS in AAA. I would rather have Brinson off the bench than Isan.

Diaz has nothing left to prove in AAA and should be a lefty off the bench. Maybe he'll get a chance to make extended starts if something happens to Berti throughout the season. Brinson probably making the team regardless IMO
