Soler adds a lot of power to our lineup and it's even better that he's not on the braves hitting hrs against us. We are not financially locked in which allows the team to be flexible. Soler might be the OD DH which wouldn't be the worst thing, but is underwhelming. I would hate it if Soler was a corner outfielder and Garcia was in center.

Does it make this team competitive in the NL East? No. Winning will only validate poor behavior. Losing will only validate what we know is true. It is a bittersweet signing...after everything it is difficult to enjoy the move we all knew was going to happen.

I honestly don't think the Marlins have any intention of playing him in the outfield. At least not regularly, anyway.

Oakland will want prospects and/or controllable guys.

March 20, 20224 yr Marlins had over 2000 plate appearances last year from guys with OPS's less than .650. These were not the starting guys (except Alfaro), but the depth behind the main guys. The Brinsons and Isans and Joe Paniks of the team. That is like 3 guys in your lineup every single day. As it stands' the Marlins would probably have to have 1 or 2 more injuries than last year (and it was pretty bad last year) to be in that same boat. Almost certainly improved over last year. The only issue is that they won't compete with the rest of the division offensively unless everyone stays healthy, Garcia and Soler don't bomb, and Jas and Sanchez take major steps forward.
