Pirates say they aren't trading Reynolds and will proceed with the same offseason plans they already were going with, and that they can't wait to see Reynolds with the Pirates in 2023.

What else are they gonna say? They still don't have to trade him but there's no way they don't at least listen to offers now. Someone said that last offseason they didn't even listen to offers. That has to change so it's up to whoever to blow them away.

The Marlins often do THINGS.

They just often dont coincide with trying to win consistently.

De Nicola says the Marlins might not want Reynolds cuz he's not a great defensive CF. Lol what a buffoon. The Marlins literally have no CFers and the guys they put there in 2022 were literally dropping easy fly balls. Reynolds is a defensive upgrade for the Marlins at CF by default. Plus, obviously, they need offense. And we already know they're interested in him so can't believe she said that.

To be fair, we don’t really know that they are interested. It’s basically just Craig Mish reporting things, and he ended up being wrong last offseason.

The problem is that their corner players:

 

LF/RF/1b/3b have been awful offensively so you cant 'hide' good to great defenders at the spots you need the best defenders.

I agree. That's dumb, because you can also platoon him out there and go a 90 LF / 60 CF split. Like you know, redundancy. Guys get hurt. I'd be fine with Reynolds as a part time CF for two years while they figure out a better longterm strategy there. (I'd imagine if they get him he is signed 5/$90+ extension). Basically find someone who can hit some right handed pitching and be a strong side platoon CF with plus defense to help Reynolds now, and figure out a longer term plan in an offseason or two. Kick the can, why not. Reynolds can hit like you said. You know, sign Kevin Kiermaier who is a FA who would be *perfect* to match with Reynolds for a year or two and distribute the OF:

LF - Reynolds 90 / DLC and the AAA OFers 72
CF - Kiermaier 102  / Reynolds 60
RF - Garcia 90+ and DLC and the AAA OFers 18+ and compete to pry off every last game they can. Make Garcia earn it.

That's Reynolds 150 starts, Garcia 90-140 starts depending on how much of an asshole he is, Kiermaier 100+, and DLC/AAA guys 90-130 starts if Garcia is an asshole and they are better. That should be a pretty solid group. That would be great.

I'd ask for Bednar also and blow them out for it - Rogers and Salas/Cappe as the centerpieces, and 3-4 other minor leaguers not named Eury, Meyer, Berry, Eder, Fulton, Watson, or Mack. Rogers would be an enormous get for them and they'd save face not moving Reynolds for solely prospects.

The Marlins would then be sitting on a roughly $88m payroll (once one of Rojas/Wendle moved and Kiermaier signed) and needing 1 and only 1 spot left on their 26 man roster - a shortstop. And then Bruce can decide if he "really" wants to put on his big boy pants and sign one of them.

I'd really be hesitant to trade Jesus Lizard. I'd move Pablo well before moving on from Lizard. I was really really impressed by his improvements last year and feel he's only behind Sandy in the rotation.
