It sounds competent, but until her actions line up with what she said, I see it as nothing more than lip service and merely stating the obvious that even a casual 12-year-old fan could see. Hopefully she goes out and proves me wrong.

Yeah that's another issue entirely though. She says she wants to add multiple pieces to the offense. She's no longer saying the lineup as is would be good enough with health. Coming from her mouth that's a positive sign.

To be fair, he slashed .238/.333/.326 with two homers and 15 RBI in 2020 (shortened season but still) before OPSing .820 with 29 homers in 2021. I am no way saying we will ever see that from him again, but I don't think getting back to his career norms (.739 OPS is certainly attainable) is completely out of the realm of possibility. Of course, with the complete lack of protection in this current lineup, it will certainly be more difficult for him than it would be under normal circumstances.

You guys really think Kim Ng took this job to just fly around the country and do interviews for "lip service" and that she doesn't actually wanna be successful at this?

I definitely think she wants to be successful, and I'm not even saying this is all her fault. I just don't think Sherman wants to spend the kind of money necessary to add the types of bats she is apparently hoping to acquire. I mean how many times have we heard these types of statements from the FO before? Both under Loria and Sherman?

I think she took the job without really understanding what responsibilities a GM really has. yep. I do believe that. Does she want to be successful? Sure. Does she KNOW how to be successful?  I have my doubts. 

I'm not even trying to trash her again. I legitimately feel she has a very poor grasp of how to be a GM and identify needs and eval players properly.

I'd agree it's very concerning to me that the same in-season roster management mistakes that were made in year 1 continued to happen in year 2.  Let's hope she finally figured out how to deal with those.  I wonder how much of it was because there were multiple voices in the FO?  Or was it truly just her?

Yeah I believe the incompetence issue and of course there's ownership issues. 

I just had to ask because Kim can do or say something right and she gets bashed and I'm not sure where the line of joking is or not sometimes. Not that there needs to be a line, joke away, they've earned it... but sometimes weird to me that Kim's comments posted above weren't automatically considered a good sign even if just being heard on their own. And yes of course words mean nothing until the actions match them but saying the right words at least implies the right actions might come so I think the words do matter along the way.

I don't know if I consider it a good sign or not though.  Simply because I do NOT trust her to evaluate players properly and make the appropriate signings without handicapping the limited resources that Bruce will provide.  Those Garcia and Soler deals were awful BEFORE they ever took the field and made little sense considering the makeup of the roster.

I mean what else is there to say really when EVERYONE else tells the offense clearly sucked.  I guess she could talk about having bad luck again and I think that's where you're saying this is a good sign but really, saying the Marlins needs more offense and being praised for saying that is a pretty sad considering it's kinda a DUH type of thing. 

Yeah, I really, REALLY don't like Kim as our GM and while I understand Bruce certainly plays a large part - she really hasn't proven to even be average at being a GM regardless of budget.  So even though I constantly rip on her - I also truly mean what I'm saying. I think she's literally the worst GM in baseball considering all her faults and I have no shame in continually trashing her until she proves otherwise and just parroting what nearly everyone has been screaming for her entire tenure doesn't really get her any bonus points in my book.  Just my .02.

I think praise is a strong word.  It's more being glad that she's finally publicly saying what everyone else has been saying since before last offseason.  Until these comments she's been stuck with repeating the whole "bad luck and injuries" line.  It's hope that she's finally clued in that more needs to be done than just hoping for bounce-backs from what we have.

Now, whether or not she actually fills the team's needs is another thing, but at least the narrative has finally shifted to what's needed.

She really does seem like she's captaining the Titanic though.  waits and waits and waits and then turns the rudder when it's too late and we're already headed for the iceberg.

Same man, same.  It remains to be seen what they'll do, but I am not at all hopeful.  And I'm about at the point of not caring at all anymore.  I know I said last offseason I was about ready to move on, but I'm even more in that mentality now.  Their "big" signings were garbage when the ink dried, and that proved to be true after the season.  I have no faith that they'll sign anyone noteworthy that'll actually help the club.

I sure as hell am not tuning in nightly.  If it continues as it has, I'll probably not even watch a full game next season.....I return to the line I started using......if they don't care, why should we?

That's true......Except all we have to go on is track record.....they were in the same exact spot last offseason, and they signed Garcia and Soler, and ignored the team's actual needs.

They may pull a rabbit out of the hat and sign a Correa and trade for Reynolds, but 5 years into the rebuild, and we've seen zero sense of urgency to make the necessary moves.

This is the point I was making earlier but I'm also very aware that I should probably just shut up because the track record also says she still ultimately won't get the job done. 

I know I'm more positive than most but at this point they've done nothing until they've actually done something.

If we're gonna talk about lip service, Sherman is the problem here as he's the one who says they're gonna put out a winner and that he will spend when needed. Poor ol' Kim has to do her best with whatever Bruce lets her work with.
