April 19, 20233 yr Do you think Skip actually wants to play him? He seems like a guy who wants to win so I question how much sway he has over that decision. I would bench his ass to send a message to the front office.

April 19, 20233 yr I would think Skip can start benching him a little more here and there and maybe the front office starts to notice? Like not fully demoting him but just being like yea we thought he was best sitting this one out and then try that a few times and see what happens.
April 19, 20233 yr It was a shit deal when they signed Avi. The Soler deal was a shit deal when they signed him. Stallings was a shit deal. Segura was a shit deal. Amazed me for years how the Marlins tried to formulate a lineup around a bunch of guys that would be bench bats on contending teams. Numb to it now. Jazz would play in most lineups. Arraez would play. Hard stop. Cooper looks like a good bat in our lineup. He's a platoon bat anywhere else. Rest of the lineup is full of has-beens, utility players, and 4th OF'ers. Roster shit players. Get shit results. The end.

His "production" is just crazy easy to replace and even upgrade by quite a bit from multiple guys in the minors. Hell, even ol' contrarian Das would agree with that tbh. 1. you could at least tag me. damn! 2. I said they should have just made Avi go away last year, so I'd be in favor of that now as well.

I mean even in his worst seasons he was nowhere near this bad. when he played in hitter parks he was good. when he played in less friendly hitter parks..he hasnt been that good. Its not really rocket science.

I'm sure he has an edict that he has to play 5 times a week or something. Pretty common in April tbh. Managers usually are given a lot more latitude to bench trash overpriced guys in the second half of the season.

He played half his games outside of his home ballpark in every season, yet the difference between the two or three good seasons and everything else is stark. It's more than that. It doesn't even matter at this point. He's so far off even his usual suckassness that it's highly improbable he would have a good season again. He needs to be cut.
April 20, 20233 yr They won't do it, it's too much $ for them to eat. Unless they swap bad contracts. Some at the other site were suggesting an Ozuna/Garcia swap.

I think Mish suggested it first (stole it from somewhere). Anyway the real answer is probably both would say fuck no. I doubt the Marlins have any desire to reunite with Marcell. And the Braves have less than zero need for Avi, plus he has a higher guaranteed salary remaining. Flat out waiving both players is probably a more desirable option and I'm not sure either organization really has the collective nut sacks to do either. There is NO chance the Marlins are waiving Avi this year, given that he still has 2 more guaranteed years left. The Braves MIGHT waive Marcell but that wont happen until June at the absolute earliest, well unless Marcell goes back to being the piece of shit he can be in the clubhouse. From a financial standpoint the Marlins say yes, so hell Sherman probably wouldn't say no, who are we kidding. Saves him some money in the end. But the Braves would still need to be convinced and if their options are to acquire Avi (for an extra 10 mil or so guaranteed) or waive Marcell, they will just waive him.
